With Irish radio going to the dogs I have been flying through the podcasts, just looking for any recommendations. I have sport covered (but still open to suggestions). At the moment I am going through the back catalogue of Talking History on Newstalk, also getting good stuff from the BBC.

I listen to Callans Kicks every now and again if I run out of sports one. Usually listen to about 16 hours of sports podcasts a week.

Only time I ever listen to the radio but the car if I am driving and there is a man on Today FM or Newstalk.

untold: The Daniel Morgan Murder is a fantastic listen. Police corruption, News of the World scumbaggery. Really good listen and an eye opener.

Serial is well known at this stage.

If your into a conspiracy - The Conspiracy Guys have some good episodes and some god awful diatribe.

I currently listen to the following every week
Anfield Wrap - Approx 6 hours
    Second Captains - 4 hours
Graham Hunter The Big Interview 1 show
Around the NFL - 2 hours

Would welcome any suggestions also. I am aiming to walk atleast 10k every day and the podcasts are the best source of motivation I have. Nothing better than getting out walking with a podcast on.

Graham Hunter has some really really excellent interviews his podcast is immense. Ones you would expect nothing from are brilliant such as Jody Morris, Alan Pardew and Neil Lennon.

I used to listen to a few non-sports but haven't for a while now.

The Infinite Monkey Cage... Science/humour with Prof. Brian Cox
The Frank Skinner Show... Saturday morning radio so very light but I'm a fan of Frank so I like it.
There's no Such Thing as a Fish ...like Q.I. without the quiz format/celebrities
The Last Podcast on the Left ... comedy/horror hosted by idiots but sometimes they have good stories.
Serial Podcast.. real life crime mystery
    Dan Carlins Hardcore History
Depending on the guest, I would listen to WTF with Marc Maron (he had Obama on last year) and The Nerdist with Chris Hardwick.
    Kermode and Mayo's Film Review
They are very old now but the funniest stuff I ever listened to was the Ricky Gervais XFM shows. It's where Karl Pilkington first appeared and slowly was dragged out of his shell by Ricky and Steve Merchant.

Second Captains moving to subscription based 'World Service' from next week. Still two free on a Monday but daily ones Tuesday to Friday will require subscription.

Will wait a few weeks to see what format of the daily is. A lot of rugby on it recently which I always skip.

    Music:

Song Exploder - A single song explained by the performer each week

    True Crimes:

In the Dark - An unsolved kidnapping from 27 years ago when the podcast started gets solved by confession during it. Why did it take so long to solve?

Accused - A boyfriend is Accused of a murder and aquitted but police never follow up the investigation as they believe that they had solved it.

Breakdown -Following a case each season, now in season two follows a death of a young child with the case about to go to trail (october 2016)

casefile - walk through of a single crime either solved or unsolved, goes into a lot of detail on some of the which makes one or two very hard going. generally really good.

Crimetown - takes a look at mob activity in Providence Rhode Island, really interesting if you're in to mob stories.

    General:

Lore - tells the background of lots of famous and not so famous folklore stories

Revisionist History - Malcolm Gladwells podcast if you enjoy his books you'll like this

Any thoughts on the new Second Captains subscription model? I'm not entirely convinced it will work, but fair play to them for trying. At the moment they have 3.5k subs, which equates to 17.5k in cash.

That's split between the five of them, minus what they have to pay Sadlier, and their studio is in Merrion Square, which isn't cheap.

They'll supplement their income with live shows / tv etc.

It will be very interesting to see their amount of paid subscribers in six months - everyone will sign up week one, but that will tail off, and people who giddily subbed on day/week one will unsubscribe when they realise they're just not listening to their stuff enough to justify the fee, even if it is just five quid.

I noticed there were no Thursday podcasts this week, are they only putting the Monday ones out for free now?

Two free ones on Monday and then four daily Tuesday to Thursday. The two interviews last week where very good.

The main reason they moved to the model was that they did not want to go down the click bait route.

Going to give it a go for a month or two. Always skip The Hurling and Rugby segments so depends how much of that is on.

Let us know what you think @GaryMc I enjoy their GAA and Rugby coverage. Main reason I haven't subscribed is that I was disappointed they did not offer a week long trial. I have no idea what the content will be.

Off the ball have a very good interview with Mark Kennedy this week with Kevin Kilbane. They played a section last night, a section tonight and then Thursday. They will then podcast the whole interview. Last nights was very good have to say. I remember meeting him in Liverpool airport back in 1995 not long after he signed. Will be interesting to hear what he has to say about that time. Seemed he went off the rails at that time.

Don't worry about it Niall, these boys forget their roots and forget where they came from.

Will give it a listen tonight. He has an interesting story to tell.

Checked myself on http://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/343 yes just 5 starts in total in only 21 appearances across 4 seasons. The partying probably did not help, but it does sound like he was unfortunate with some injuries in consecutive pre-seasons at Liverpool. Had forgotten that he was the most expensive teenage signing ever when Roy Evans brought him to Liverpool.

Just after listening. Really good interview. Some mad stuff over the arrests. Interesting comments near the end on Pep Lijnders.

Second Captains has been good so far.

Good debate on GAA super 8 concept this week and was also a good one on 10 years on from Rugger in Croke Park.

Ken Early is doing a politics one today. Be interesting, as I am not into it much however felt some of the stuff on the pod they talked about before, during and after the US election was decent. Wonder though was that because it was popular or will they actually discuss politics in this country.

Worth a fiver a month at the moment anyway
