Looks like Delaney & Rodgers have a little bit in common, both went for blondes As for him singing a Wolftones song in a pub, not an issue in my mind and infact, it's something thats typical up and down much of our country, in our homes etc. Granted, the song in question might have raised a few hairs on peoples necks, got the emotions flowing or perahps didn't appeal to everyone (same could be said for the film: In the name of the Father, which RTE recently broadcast perhaps)... but a republican song being sung in a pub in Ireland, shock horrow !!!! Here's a link to the song, if anyone wants to hear it and then decide what they think (of the song and the underlying issue ) http://martindardis.com/id189.html
I am sure it would have helped him get the job alright! His old lad famously bought tickets from Peter The Greek in New York in 94 for supporters who had no tickets. My old lad asked him at Shelbourne Park had he any tickets for the Holland game at Anfield in 95 and he pulled two out like Paul Daniels. John himself was working for the FAI since the late eighties afaik.
One of my favourite ballads that. A nothing issue in my mind aswell. Hopefully something good comes out of this, and that would be a lot more scrutiny on the piss poor job he's doing.
As the head of an organisation he should have more sense than to get caught out like that. While it is not something I take offence to, we all have different values and he really needs to examine his ethics going forward, as he represents the football community of Ireland.
The flip side of that is that everyones entitled to a night off now and then mate. Personally, I think there comes a time when cameras ain't appropriate, no matter who they are filming or taking snaps of. How a person is doing in their job is a different matter to what they do in their personal time as I see it. I can only repeat what Bab's said above ... "Hopefully something good comes out of this, and that would be a lot more scrutiny on the piss poor job he's doing." It's how he's doing at the job that matters, not what he gets up to in his personal time (assuming it's not illegal )
True but given your job you must be careful. Delaney needs to decide if he is the CEO or one of the lads...
Exactly,he can't be one of the lads when it suits him. Does he not realise that by apologising to anyone that was offended by him singing the song he is offending an awful lot of people he has sang with, drank with and took his shoes off with as one of the boys?
I wonder does having the support of the Board in the FAI, mean the same as having the support of the Board in the PL ?
One of the all time greats... http://www.independent.ie/sport/soc...neys-biggest-moments-on-youtube-30778643.html
Anyone here a member of YBIG? If so, did you see the stuff that was posted of Emma English? Did YBIG remove the content and apologise to her or issue a statement?
I am a member but didn't see the stuff that was posted. Yes they removed it and have a thread up apologising to her which i saw. John Delaney said to Pat Kenny that more stuff was posted on the apology thread but again it was taken down when i had a look.
Christ, I had a look at one or two of those, and when you consider the abuse Ian Ayre gets, you have to wonder.
Lol, looking back over it, it looks a little cringe .. I agree, ish. I don't have an issue with Delaney as a CEO, just with is wage.
