Truck was stuck under the bridge in Amiens Street today when I was leaving work. Just saw there another truck has hit the bridge in Drumcondra. It's amazing how often trucks hit bridges in Dublin.
It's hard to not at the very least imagine that it's lads paying zero attention to what they're doing driving trucks today thinking about the long weekend if there's been two strikes in the one day. I'm always amazed that it's not one of the big things in a truck drivers mind, can I fit under this bridge? As a similar story from my brother today he got the train into town and jumped off at Broombridge to test out the new Luas, got off only to realise that the Luas wasn't running because kids are on strike over something in the city so waited 25 minutes for the next train as he hadn't a clue where he was only to get stuck on a train somewhere for 15 minutes because of the bridge being struck at Connolly. I'd say he wishes he'd just stayed home today.
The kids are trying to force governments into doing more to combat climate change. There's lots of hot takes on social media about them getting lifts to school in cars,or going on holidays on planes but it misses the point like those calling water charge protesters hypocrites for buying bottles of water did.Tell your brother that Luas from Broombridge is a very good service by the way. Society shouldn’t be leaving it to kids to affect sustainability policies. We’re all Hypocrites when it comes to waste reduction, sustainability measures, power consumption etc. Businesses are not immune to that charge either.
What’s people’s opinions on helping the homeless with cash/food ? Generally don’t to be honest extremely rarely, but I was approach yesterday morning in Manchester by a young man, didn’t ask for cash or anything, just asked would by any chance be able to get him a hot drink and a slice of toast. so that’s what he got.(and before anyone says anything I’m not looking for credit like these social media attention seekers) But Really opened my eyes to what the homeless must face to be honest, He was a genuine nice guy and he couldn’t be more thankful, spent a little while talking with him, he wished me a happy Saint Patrick’s day and had a little laugh together, a lot of these people just want a little human interaction and not ignored like the are a piece of dirt or a eye sore on the street
People are on the streets for many different reasons I have worked with different groups that provide help Its both heart Breaking and scary to see how some people live Taking a moment to stop and talk to another human is great and can mean so much to the person Numbers on the streets are on the rise here and the uk sadly Yeah some people on the streets will spend cash on drink or drugs Persoanlly i wont judge them as i haven't walked in their shoes Some people on the streets have very complex issues and providing them with a home isnt that straight forward One thing is certain enough is not being done my governments to help Imagine how bad things would be without the many charity groups or without random acts of kindness like yours John
Last week I cleaned out my wardrobe and had three bags of clothes , some with the labels still on them and most of them were too small for me. Decided I would drop them into the men’s refuge in Wexford as it’s for a good cause. The lad who I handed them to, was over the moon and said they are very grateful as they have a lot of men down on their luck in Wexford . I just thought to myself that if I ever needed help in the future that’s where I would go. He told me some good stories about the place too. I would urge anyone who is thinking of throwing out all clothes to drop them into the men’s refuge in their local town or village of if the missus is throwing out clothes advise her to drop them into the women’s refuge as I’m sure they would be very appreciated . Not looking for any praise or anything but when you walk away from there, like John said it gets you thinking what more we could be doing.
Don't normally listen to it but there was a blind woman on liveline yesterday who is sleeping in the doorway of a shop on Grafton street with her guide dog, the normality of the conversation between her and Joe was staggering. This country truly is fcuked.

That fella from Mountjoy who is being extradited to the US for child porn...he's technically an innocent man and he's been locked up here for 6 years. A bit mad when you think lads who have been convicted usually get a slap on the wrist or a couple of years at most.
I googled that and I can't figure it out. Did he live in America while he was facilitating child porn? Or has the American government requested Ireland extradite him because the images were being viewed in America? But there's millions of people in prison in America who haven't been convicted of the crime they're in there for allegedly committing,the bail system badly penalises those without sufficient means. And Shemima Beggum hasn't been charged with a crime in any jurisdiction but the British government revoked her citizenship making her stateless.
He was living in Mountjoy Square the whole time. The FBI tracked him down and asked the Gardai to apprehend him which they did and they seized all his computers. They had to let him go after 24 hours because the FBI didn't have some warrant ready (possibly the extradition warrant). As soon as he got out he bought a laptop, went online,started changing passwords to his various site and researched how to become a citizen of Russia. (to evade extradition to US) I'm not sure how or why he was arrested again but since then he's been refused bail as a flight risk and also because he interfered with with the investigation by changing passwords. Aspergers has been mentioned so no doubt that will play for his defence but I'd say he'll be put away for life once he ends up in America.
