I really enjoyed this programme last night. The three Liverpool players Ron Yeates, Ian St. John & Chris Lawlor obviously felt very privileged to have played for LFC under Shanks. Without Bill's great vision and determination when he took over the club as manager Liverpool Footbal Club might not be where it is today.

It was so good to hear the players telling stories about Bill many of which I had read in books but it was great to hear them in their own words.

I had meant to post on the site but never got around to it today that there was a programme broadcast earlier on LFC called 'A Memorial to Bob.' It was all about the memorial that was unveiled in Bob's honour at the start of the season at Hetton-le-Hole. There were also contributions to the programme by Bob's brother and his late wife. There was also a poem read out by Peter Etherington that really told the story of Bob's life at LFC. I am sure it will be repeated again.

I must admit I avoided subscribing to Setanta for the first year but now that I have I really enjoy many of the programmes on LFCTv and have another documentary to watch shortly on Billy Liddell.

Was a good show, very laid back and relaxing for the guys just to discuss a few of the well told tales of yesteryear. As mrs potatohead remarked, its hard to believe it was a sky production it was that down to earth and not sensationalised!!

It was a really good show, I love listening to the older players talk about football, especially Liverpool players. Ian St.John speaks quite well, seen him on LFC TV aswell, he is quite a good story teller. I think sky deserve credit for this, it was well put together. Hope they do one on the Paisley years, get Thommo on it!

i love hearing ian st john's stories about shanks, you can tell the man had a profound effect on him.
i never heared him speak before about the st james' park incident.it was clear that it really hurt and disappointed him but to his credit he didn't let it cloud his overall opinion of shanks...

I was also surprised about the st james' park incident but as you said willy it shows how much respect st john had for shanks that he did not let it effect his opinion.

I loved the one on one story from Blackpool, the one with shanks and the other ex Scotland player.

Recorded this when it was on, watched half of it and only got to see the 2nd half over the weekend.

The story about us playing behind the iron curtain that time, Shanks came in to visit Yates and he would whisper incase there where microphones on the lights had me in stitches and Shanks saying he "saw it in a movie once". Excellent interview. All 3 of thelads and Jeff himself you could tell were well up for it.

Times were far more innocent back then.
