Hard to believe we got a draw out of that tbh. Still not very optimistic about qualification although it's been a good start.
You would make some money backing 1-1 in Ireland games around teams of the same level. Poor enough performance however sitting pretty in the group
Some positives in the game: One of our Forward players scored a goal. Nice for McGoldrick - he looked delighted and I'm glad for him. Some reasonable passages of play were seen. A little bit of creativity. this was obviously coupled with some sloppy and poor first and second touch from several players. Draw was a fair result. The Double Away fixture should decide our fate.
If we were to have any chance of qualifying we needed to be top now anyway. Georgia away, Switzerland away, Denmark at home. Need 5 points minimum and that won't necessarily be enough. Tough games. If we don't win against Georgia the writing will be on the wall.
So cutting the way a players career can end. 12 years gone in a couple of minutes. I remember Ronnie Whelan saying similar to Keane. He turned down a one year off and then decided to accept it but the offer was withdrawn. Said he was in a daze and pulled over in his car and cried which Keane also did.
I fancied 0-1 and it looked very likely near the end. Our attacking hasn't been great for a number of years. But it's good that we attack more under Mick than we did under MON. A good result. Edit: But I agree that backing 1-1 in the past few years would definitely make money.
Atmosphere was decent. I've been at most of Ireland's competitive games for the last 5 years, and that was certainly above average. But it's no Anfield alright.
Only got to listen to this properly tonight and I don't know about anyone else but I thought the crowd was an embarrassment. Laughing at every little thing Keane said and the Keono chants when he was talking about Walters too.
If Swiss beat Denmark and we beat Georgia then a point against the Swiss wouldn't be relavent afaik we may as well go for all 3 as we would need a point at home to Denmark with a loss or a draw
A nice bonus that result yesterday. A huge next day next month. Us playing Georgia followed by Denmark and Switzerland that night.
Jack Byrne should be an option off the bench for our remaining qualifiers. I wouldn't consider him even for a second to start any of them,I dont even see much of a future for him at that level but he's right up there in terms of creativity in our squad and looks like he'd really fancy himself if you threw him in when you're desperate to create something so I'd make sure he's available for that job.
