I remember Boon well. Michael Elphick played 2 great cameo characters on tv/film - the mad Irishman in Auf Wiedersehen Pet and the poacher in Withnail & I. It also kicked off the career of Neil Morrissey who played Rocky!
Three’s Company now thats a blast from the past, the blond was amazing or maybe it was just me been a young lad who thought that.
I'm rewatching Auf Weidersehn Pet and it's fu*cking brilliant. I watched it as a kid and I always thought it was a drama with some comedy, but now I realise it's the other way around and a lot of the jokes just went over my head when I first saw it. Almost finished season 2 and it's become one of my favourite shows. I never saw the later reunion seasons so I'm looking forward to them.
Its a belter of a series. I was a teenager when it came out in the mid80s and I loved it then. The re-union shows were ok. I think there were 3 as well as a last one-off in Thailand. I loved Series 2 best divided between Thornley Manor and Spain. Oz copping off with the Taxman who took Wayne's car was priceless!! Look at the internal hotel shots in Spain in Series 2. Gary Holton, who played Wayne, died of an overdose before the internal filming was complete. The outdoor filming was done but you will see various references, in the indoor scenes, to Wayne being in bed or out. There are some scenes where he was necessary and they used an actor with a wig standing with his back to the camera! And two cracking theme songs as well!
I knew he died before season 2 had finished and was wondering how they dealt with it. I didn't notice the all references to his absence so it obviously worked. I think Pat Roach sadly died before the final Thailand episode.
Started to watch “Bottom” on Netflix last week. A mate told me about it. I’ve never seen it before. Jesus the two lads are gas. It’s easy to watch . Some of the old stuff is bloody gas.
A few episodes in to Homicide: Life on the Street and it looks great. Based on a book by David Simon, creator of The Wire, and so far it has a similar vibe to that show. It's from 1993 and I can't believe I've never given it a shot until now.
The Corner was grim but interesting. It was mad seeing actors from the Wire in completely different roles but the same settings in The Corner. Lester and Lt Daniels were junkies I think.
Searching for a channel 4 series from the 80s. Dont know or cant recall the name of it. I think it was dubbed ch4s minder. It was about 2 young men In the early 20s i guess. Duckin an divin, trying to make a few quid, few scams. One of the guys was black the other one white. I've searched online. Doesnt help I cant remember the name of the show, but I'm sure I'll get the eureka moment when I see its name. Anyone recall the series?
Hmm, not giving us much to work on there, doesn't ring a bell. I used to love Dempsey and Makepiece, Glynis Barber was lovely in it. They had great chemistry and got together in real life (think they might still be married 30 plus years later...)
