Need a rest. Might do park run Saturday but otherwise take it easy. Legs not feeling great today.

Also anyone any advice on running shoes. I have been through a few. Will be for long distance, so light and support. I also over pronate which is an issue, its amazing all my runners wear out dramatically on the outer aspect.

My current brooks vapor 3 are wrecked.apparently others have reported similar issues with the outsole. Otherwise I found it a great shoe for running, but doesn't have longevity. Went for hill run and when I took shoes off the sole was almost completely worn off on the outside.

I'm thinking asics gel-kayano-given its well known. Haven't had a pair yet. but does any one have any other recommendations?

Im using Nike air zoom structure 19 @ moment, find these good. These in grand nik and I find these great, light, good support and seem well built. But don't want to be dependent on one pair.

    Thanks all

I tend to stick with the same brand, started out with asics and then flirted with brooks and NB but i always end up going back to the old reliable saucony, really good shoes.
Have you considered custom orthotics @megager ?
If you're "wrecking" your shoes so quickly you'd probably end up saving money in the long run, I'm using mine a few months now and I'm really happy with them.

Think I'll need to. I'm getting 3-6 months at this stage. The way all wear out on the outside, I must have a severe case of over pronation. I did get assessment for my Nike pair, and I like them to be fair.

There is a lot of research done on this. And the conclusion is to wear shoes that are comfortable! As Megager says, find a brand that you like, that are comfortable and stick to them.

If you're doing 30ish miles a week you should be changing your shoes every 6 months.

Yeah, ive gone through 3 pairs now since Jan last year. Was a bit shocked though when I came back last night. Seemed to wear down a lot during the run.

Which particular saucony model do you like?

The Nike air zoom structure I have to say are the most comfortable shoe ive worn so far. so light and decent support. Might get another of those if I can see good price.

Thanks a million for the advice.

Have you signed up to anything much this year?

Wearing the echelons at the moment and am very happy with them, have to stick with them now cos the orthotics fit in them.
Training for the Liverpool marathon at the mo, going very well so far.

Reading a very good book at the moment called The Dirtiest Race In History, Ben Johnson, Carl Lewis and the 1988 Olympic 100m final.

The Dan Gordon documentary on that race was excellent. He is the same filmmaker that made the Hillsborough documentary and his latest one is on George Best.

Best of luck to Dub13 in the Brighton marathon this weekend. Hope conditions are favourable and that you run your heart out.

Disaster, was way way to hot for me. Was in the low 20s, from 10 mile in it was just about tucking in and finishing. I came through the half way point at about 1:46 so only a little bit off target but I just knew I had to pull back. People were going down all over the course because of it, I was talking to a Irish lad in a bar after and he pulled up after 10 mile an just gave up, he said he had done the Lisbon marathon and it was not that bad.

Was over 2 hours for my second half, I have not even looked at my splits yet as I did not even check the watch after about 14 miles. I even had a little trip to the medical tent which was a first for me. My slowest marathon yet and by a mile my toughest one yet. I am just not built for the heat.

I am happy that I reevaluated things on the course and took the foot of the gas early enough as if I did not it could have been a lot worse. Maybe I should have reevaluated things on the start line.
