I hope I've posted this in the correct forum (if not, my apologies and mods please feel free to move it).

My name is Whitney. I’m a 22 year-old Liverpool fan from the USA , who is studying abroad here in Ireland (mostly in the Dublin area, and I'm living in a homestay in Dun Laoghaire) as part of my degree. I really have two reasons for posting here, and I’m hoping you can provide some guidance.

First of all, I’m a massive Liverpool fan, and wanted the opportunity to meet other fellow fans whilst I’m here (it’s not quite as fun watching games by myself). Secondly, for the introductory portion of a course I’m taking on Field Study, we’re supposed to choose a topic that we’re passionate about and a topic that will give us an entrée of sorts into some section of Irish society, and research that for approximately two weeks, with the aim of producing an 8-10 page paper at the end. I’ve chosen to research Liverpool supporters in Ireland . My project will require that I meet with, interview (either via e-mail or face to face) and generally get to know some fellow Liverpool supporters here in Ireland . I was hoping (as I am just getting started on this project) you might be able to let me know if there are any supporters clubs in the city, perhaps some of the better place to be to watch the various Liverpool matches coming up, and if any of you might be willing to answer some questions I have for my project.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi diplomatique. The demographics of Liverpool fans here would be relatively interesting but in truth you would struggle to write a paper of the magnitude on it.

Politics/Religion has very little impact on football in the UK anymore, unlike Italy. Liverpool was traditionally more protestant up to the 1970s but that is insignificant nowadays.

Glasgow Celtic  in Ireland would be a far better football club to base your study on, as the club has a large fan base here and they have strong political views.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. :)

Nope, I'm not Texan, and I wholeheartedly distance myself from any actions taken by our lovely (said in the most sarcastic way possible) American owners.

I'll definitely be checking out the Tram . . . if I can find it. I'm still quite new to the city, so any pointers on what form of public transportation is the best way to get from Dun Laoghaire to James St. and where I go from there to get to Tram?

The paper is going quite well. It's just a short assignment on Liverpool fans in the Dublin area. If possible, it would be of great help if some of you might be willing to answer some questions I have.

The following are some questions that I've typed up that will go a long way in helping me to complete my project. Anyone who wants to help out, know that you can answer as many or a few of the questions as you like. I definitely GREATLY appreciate the help.

    How old are you?

How long have you been a Liverpool supporter?

Why are you a Liverpool supporter?

Have you lived anywhere besides Ireland in your lifetime? If so, where?

Do you have any local connections to Liverpool? If so, what?

How popular would you say the English Premier League is in Ireland, and how popular would you say Liverpool is?

What do you believe the most popular sport in Ireland is?

Why do you think Irish Liverpool supporters in general support Liverpool?

Do you typically connect with other Liverpool supporters in Ireland face-to-face, or online?

How many matches per year do you watch (on the television)?

Have you ever seen Liverpool play in person? If so, how many times? And where?

Who is your favourite player and why?

What is your favourite Liverpool memory and why?

Do you call the sport football or soccer, and why do you give it the name you do?

Anything else you would like to add?

I'll get the ball rolling for you since your surnames not Hicks and I'm bored to death at work ;)

    How old are you?

    22

How long have you been a Liverpool supporter?

    18 years

Why are you a Liverpool supporter?

I come from a family of Mancs (Manchester United fans). My Dad was neutral just like watcing a good game of football, so he got me a Liverpool kit to wind up the extended family. The fascination grew from there and I'm still banished from family gatherings :D

Have you lived anywhere besides Ireland in your lifetime? If so, where?

Currently living temporarily in Chester (half hour from Anfield) in England.

Do you have any local connections to Liverpool? If so, what?

Apart from living there temoparily, and having mates there then no.

How popular would you say the English Premier League is in Ireland, and how popular would you say Liverpool is?

The premiership is like a religion for most football 'fans' in Ireland (the inverted commas suggest a large amount of armchair/barstool premiership followers), so very popular, a lot more so than the Irish Premier League.
Id say about one third of Irish premiership fans follow Liverpool.

What do you believe the most popular sport in Ireland is?

Football to watch on tv and play, gaelic football to go and watch.

Why do you think Irish Liverpool supporters in general support Liverpool?

Different reasons, as people on here will testify to. I think theres a mutual fondenss between the Irish and the Scouse due to location and access and similar sense of humour. A lot of family ties too either side of the Channel.

Do you typically connect with other Liverpool supporters in Ireland face-to-face, or online?

    Both.

How many matches per year do you watch (on the television)?

Every single Liverpool game I'm not at plus probably three/four other games/week.

Have you ever seen Liverpool play in person? If so, how many times? And where?
Very personal question that! ;) Yes. Anfield, Bolton, Wrexham, Dundalk, Istanbul, Barcelona, Manchester, London, Belfast, think thats it. I've seen them play live about 30-40 times.

Who is your favourite player and why?

Jamie Carragher. Encapsulates everything Liverpool F.c represents. Our true leader.

What is your favourite Liverpool memory and why?

Istanbul 2005- witnessing the best game of football in my life live. Going from despair at 10pm to ectasy at 1am. The lowest and highest I've ever been emotionally in my football life. Liverpool back where we belong for the 5th time.

Do you call the sport football or soccer, and why do you give it the name you do?

:D Football. Its only known as soccer in America and Oz AFAIK.

Anything else you would like to add?

Best way for public transport in Dublin is to get on your bicycle!!
