I did a bit of digging on Hodgson but it looks like the nearest he came was with Inter when he returned for a short spell in 1999. But Mircea Lucescu was manager when Man Utd KO's them so I'm guessing Hodgson maybe took over briefly before Marcello Lippi came in. He was also at Grasshoppers for a season but they weren't in the Champions' League that year.
I only have 3 and you got 2 already Thompson and Robson, there could be more but I don't think there is. I am amazed how few English managers have managed in the CL.
The late Ray Harford...Was he blackburn manager or was it King Kenny, I think it was Harford?? There was also the guy who managed a scandanavian side, AIK from stockhom. Cant remember his name but they were in Arsenals group and were the only team arsenal beat
Yes well done.... Stuart Baxter (born August 16, 1953, Birmingham) is an English football manager. He started his career as a footballer for Preston North End FC in 1968. He later decided to join Helsingborgs IF who play in Sweden, he then settled in Sweden as a coach. His greatest success was in 1998 when he led the AIK side to become Swedish champions and he also led AIK to Champions League 1999. AIK played FC Barcelona, Arsenal FC and Fiorentinain group B.
I thought the champions league started in 1992. Remember Rangers were in Marsaille's group and finished second to them. Marsaille beat Milan in final.
I think thats the lot...Thompson,Robson and Stuart Baxter.I am still checking on Harford but I don't think he did. Thats all I have can anybody add to the list...?
Maybe it was just the name that changed in 97/98.I think the runners up were also permitted to join in 97/98. I think you are right and this could add Harford to the list.
