Wondering if anyone gets these and/or has taken steps to find remedies. My situation is; I never got a sinus infection ever, literally, then about 13 months ago, on the eve of going to Thailand for a month I got a whopper infection. Doc prescribed me augmentin which eventually killed it off but it never got rid of them long term. In the last 13 months I've had 6 infections - no lie. My environment hasn't changed, work or home, I've used 4 different anti biotics, which all work for that infection but never for good. I've tried nasal sprays, nasal washes, homeopathic herbal remedies, ive cleared sand from my water tank (showers) all to no avail. I always get congestion every morning, nasal and throat ecen though I don't smoke. There were no vents in my room, so I drilled a 4" vent a few months ago, open or closed (gave it a few weeks at a time) - no change. Has anyone a similar issue? Does anyone know if di or humidifiers work? Any recommendations? Or any remedies work for you? Im Interested in proven (for you) remidies.
Edit: I'm about to raise the head of my bed by 3inches to see if that drains the sinuses during the night, anyonetry this?
Cut dairy out of your diet mate. I used to get loads of sinus infections,as soon as I cut out dairy they went away. Havent drank cow's milk in years,I drink soya milk instead and I eat sheep and goats cheese instead of dairy cheese.I also use non dairy spreads instead of butter, suma do a very good soya spread. I actually still eat dairy cheese from time to time but when I do I always feel myself starting to get blocked up a few days later so it's not worth it. Give it a go,nothing to lose..
Cheers lads, I've certainly cut down on Dairy after reading about it. I don't eat cheese but I do like my milk, used to enjoy a pint of milk with the dinner but rarely do that anymore. Not sure how much dairy there is in Flora, but I avoid butter. I do drink about 3 cups of tea a day and take my milk in that but not much. Like the next guy, I like my chockie bars but I wouldn't eat one a day or anything. Any other ideas?
Try Olbas oil as well mate. My wife gets sinus infections and finds that it gives a bit of relief. You'll get it in any chemist.
A girl I work with swears by taping your mouth while you sleep. Sounds crazy I know but it definitely worked for here and other people she has recommended it to.
You'd want to be able to breath through your nose to do that, or else it will be a nice sleep you'll never wake up from..
I use ulnar all the time, it's great. I put about 4 drops into a basin of boiling water and leave it in the corner of the room, it's only a short term relif kinky, I like her methods For some reason I'm drawn to thinking of Borats missis in Wedding Crashers!?
That's the problem with those mate, they are just temporary, but maybe give the Olbas a go and see how it compares to the one your using. Hope it gets better for ya. Do you get headaches from it at all? I know my wife can get fairly bad ones at times.
Sorry Faces that word Ulnar was actually meant to be Olbas but my spell checker on the iPhone changed it to Ulnar!? Im going to raise the head of the bed tonight (wohoo go kinky me) and see how I get on over the next week or so. I'll post my findings watson
used to get infections on a regular basis. hadnt a clue what it was . Tried various attempts to find out what it was. for me it was LYNX shower gel. I can use their other products and some of their other shower gels, but i cant use the "click" one. It may take you a while to figure out what it is. A case of trial and error. Use a handkerchief. But use a clean one about every hour otherwise your just putting the infection back in you. With me it felt as if it was something on my skin , so I showered frequently. The steam will help to clear your sinuses and open pores. Flixonase is a nasal spray that I used. Very seldomm get infections now.
Just noticed another thread you started Bren. A new baby. Lots of detergents and sterilisation. You never know. There is something new in your atmosphere and surroundings. Just a matter of finding out what it is
In same boat myself this year. Dairy is supposed to be a common cause of it. I've had 4/5 doses of anti b's this year.
I've had the bed raised 3 nights and I think I'm a little better in the mornings!? It could be coincidence but I'll keep any eye on it and post results
I've suffered from it for years, since my early teens. I've been to every kind of specialist there is. I get the nasal congestion, sinus headaches, sinus pressure when flying and also fluid in my ear from time to time. The most recent specialist I attended was only this month. The bad news for me is that there is no cure, there's no operation for it, you just have to live with it. All you can do is try and negate things that you think may be causing it - such as dairy, aerosol sprays, air fresheners, washing detergents etc. Also, do you have a pet in the house? It might be an idea for you to do a proper food allergy test, so you can find out what foods don't agree with you and what to stay away from. I'm going to be doing this myself along with a full health check up with my Dr. next month. The tips the specialist gave to me were: Use a a spray like Nasonex or Flixonase once every morning & evening. Do the food allergy test as you may need to cut out dairy or certain meats. A quick Shower at night helps as it opens up the nasal passageways. Keep a window slightly opened at night (this depends how close your bed is to window tho). Leave the windows at home open as often as possible - ie open them when u get home from work. Go out for walks and exercise regularly. Sleep with two pillows (alternative to raising the bed). If you have a pet or are around pets, check for pet allergies. Hope this helps. The one thing I wouldn't wish on anyone is the sinus pressure when flying - the happens when there's a quick drop in cabin pressure. The pain is excruciating and it often results in burst blood vessels. The sensation is like sharp needles and pins and that your eye/nose is about to explode. It's happened me a few times and knocked me off form for a few Liverpool trips as usually a headache follows. To combat this you need to take Sudafed the night before the flight, and then on the day of the flight Otravine spray 20 mins before take off and 20 mins after landing. But I hope you never have to go through that as it's a bitch and a frightening experience.
I have had sinus problems for years and the first time I got the sinus pressure flying was on the was to the US I though I was having an aneurysm it felt like someone had stabbed me in the head from ear to the corner of my eye next to my nose, I have never felt pain like it and gladly exchange it for the pain of a full on kick in the nuts. I have tried everything and my GP says I will probably need to have surgery eventually to fix it. My sinus will usually either give me tonsil problems from post nasal drip or sometimes I will wake up with a blooshot eye and a pain behind my cheek from an infection. Serious sinus problems are not something I would wish on anyone
