Pulled the trigger on an XPS 15 this morning on the Dell Outlet UK.

22% off until July 12th. Added the 4 on site warranty for extra comfort.

Sorry, just seen this now, I'm in the middle of doing 2 house moves at the moment, and work is up the walls so don't get on much at the moment.

The Dell XPS 15 is up there as one of the best on the market, so you won't have any issues with what you plan on doing for a few years. They're very well made and should take a decent amount of punishment before giving out. Also this particular model is quite light for the size of the laptop. I think it might actually be the lightest, I'll need to check.

It's a spectacular machine and I'm sure you'll be happy with the purchase for a while.

Anyone recommend a reasonable priced Printer for the house. I’d prefer a wireless one with the ink not been too pricey . Just need it to print and scan really. Wouldn’t have a clue about them been honest .

brother are a good brand, not too dear on the ink, 3rd party ink refills are more than likely to work with brother, they dont crack down on it as much.

    something like this.

Cheers Pal for the response. I picked up a cannon one a couple of weeks ago. Only set it up yesterday and it does the business. The ink for it isn’t too pricey either . Can get the XXL cartridges at a reasonable price .

Elvis, (or anyone else technically minded) I'm with Vodafone ciro (siro?) and having problems with picture pixelation, and intermittent dropping of signal on the broadband in general.
Everything in the house (pc, laptop, Xbox, 1 phone) is wireless with speeds generally in the 70 meg up 45 down range, 10-11 ms latency.
The cable connecting the modem to the Siro box is a CAT 5 and only about 4 feet of a run.
Did I read somewhere (or plain imagine) that CAT 5's are obsolete / unable to handle higher speeds these days and if so is there a CAT 6, 7, 99 that I should be using instead?
Also is there any particular brand/type of HDMI cable I should be running between the set-top box and tv as I'm pretty sure the one I am using is a cheapie thing from Dealz or the like.

    Cheers.

I'm gonna guess that if you plug a laptop directly into to router that you'll be getting full speed of Ciro. 900+ per second.
    I'd doubt it's the cable.
Are your devices new? It could be that they can't handle the high speeds

Devices are all relatively new Mico.
I did a bit more snooping around and see that the CAT5 cable is rated at 100m on 100Mhz, so the reason I was wondering was if I am pulling 70meg on the desktop, and herself is on the laptop doing something similar (unlikely but you never know) and the Xbox is going, that's all add up to way over 100meg and is that why the tv is dropping out?
Also is the 100 Mhz rating on the CAT 5 good enough for the broadband - which I have no idea what rating Mhz wise that is.

Speed on a cable only becomes an issue at around 100metres. Up until that point there's no loss of speed.

What speed did Siro offer you? They usually supply Cat5e cables which can handle up to 1000mb (1gig) of speed.

What kind of router do you have (if anything is an issue it's probably this). Better quality routers will manage the bandwidth more effectively and prioritise certain devices at certain times, so your 70mb won't be split even over Laptop, SmartBox, TV, Tablet, Phones, but rather a larger % will go to the SmartBox or TV when actively streaming and the other devices will receive a lower amount until they require a larger demand.

10mb is fast enough to stream HD content. So I still wouldn't be expecting pixelation on anything. Can you share a screenshot?

They offered me 1 gig, but to be honest I've no clue how near that I could be, I havent anything physically plugged into the modem.
The modem is the one supplied by Vodafone, and the installer said when setting it up that the TV only needed about 2-3 meg.
Btw - this isnt netflix or the like I'm having trouble with, its plain old tv stations on the Vodafone platform.

Of course, after driving me demented last night, the tv is behaving itself all day today. Like bringing a sick kid to the doctor and they miraculously get better in the waiting room

Recommended for the TV is that it needs at least 10mb to be stable and HD!
I'd suggest using cables from the modem to heavy usage devices. But if you've got the vodafone TV, then you defo want to cable into that from the modem or you'll see those issues crop up again.

My setup is usually modem is close to the bulk of the electonics (so beside TV) or in a central location.

    I'll Ethernet into:
    Xbox
    PS4
    TV
    Set-top box(Eir, Vodafone, Virgin, Sky)
    Android SmartBox
    Powerline adapter

Then upstairs I'll have the PC/Laptop Dock connected through the powerline adapter and a spare ethernet in case I bring a console upstairs.

    Everything else runs off WiFi.
Between phones, tablets, laptops, lightbulbs, plugs, doorbell, cameras and smart assistants there's about 20 devices regularly connected.

All without any noticeable drop in performance.

Get a cat5e or cat6 cable, plug it directly into your laptop and go to fast.com and check the results. Try do it outside of peak hours and you should see speeds in the high hundreds.

Thanks Elvis, I'll bite the bullet and run some cable and move the modem into the sitting room, TV Xbox and desktop all in there and just hardwire the lot of them.
Is there a proper name on the "ethernet" cable, so I know what I'm asking for in my friendly local electrical wholesaler? I take it its available on a roll like every other cable (and hopefully he has the crimp tool for the actual plugs)

Just ask them for some Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet/LAN cable. He should be able to crimp them for you as well.

I've a few spare, so if he doesn't have it, PM me your address and I'll post some out to you.

Personally, I think that looks overpriced
I bought a refurbed Acer with similar specs from AmazonUK for half the price.
It's CPU wasn't as good but it had 1TB storage.
It lasted me 5 years before the battery died.
Before that, I bought from laptopsdirect.
I've never bought a laptop or pc in Ireland and it's because of the prices.

Did you do a search of the whole computer?
If you're using Windows 10, I think you can put the title of the file in the Search Bar that is on the task bar.
Otherwise you can open My PC in File Explorer and search using the bar on the top right.
If the file didn't have a title, it will be called "untitled "
I'm not sure if the Recycle Bin is searched so check there as well.

Google brings up a few options including:
    https://www.easeus.com/file-recovery/recover-lost-word-documents-in-windows-10.html

Sorry for showing obvious solutions but I know plenty of people who never think of google when they are up shit creek.

It sounds like your file is somewhere on your pc in some format. I'm not sure if you would need data recovery software to retrieve it.
