Comb overs and keeper only allowed four steps. Also back in the day....... timing matches. In a time when we didnt have the time in corner of the screen, i would time matches on my watch while watching

    Bubble perms
    Alice bands
Short shorts that were more like speedos
Goalies with baseball hats (on occasion maybe)
Players wearing tights in the winter (alright there Digger) - which can only be a good thing.
Players able to withstand the cold and NOT wear gloves (run more - you'll warm up)
    Plain green goalie jerseys
Upper body strength in a lot of players - slight contact sending lads down like they were assassinated
Defenders looking like a cast member of the Walking dead with blood soaked head bandages
Balls actually well inside the quadrant for corners
Teams lining up with squad numbers 1 tru 11
4-4-2 with 4 lateral midfielders is almost extinct
Random animals running onto the pitch

They still happen, but the media outlets decided a few years ago to not show or mention them. Kind of took the sail out of there winds as they say.

On that vain, did you hear the Herald will no longer be doing the Striker supplement. End of an era, the joy a kid would get when his or her team was in the paper was amazing.

    Players with proper moustaches.
    Dogs on pitches.
Fans tying scarves around their wrists.
Sew on patches (for your denim jacket)
Anything made by Bukta, Gola or Patrick.

A goalkeeper catching the ball and clutching it to his chest. . . Without falling to the ground theatrically.

The pools results at the end of Grandstand.
I don't know the fellas name who, for about 40 years, used to read them out but I can still remember his voice clear as day.

There wasn't any better feeling in the world when you thought a game was drawn 1-1 to find out 20 minutes later that your team had scored a late winner. And then the anticipation to find out who scored. Sometimes took another 20 minutes.
Aertel was notorious for keeping you in suspense.

Does be mad listening to Jonny Giles taking about playing games two days in a row around Xmas.

One thing I do miss is the buzz around FA Cup 3rd round. Maybe all but two games kicking at 3pm. Think this years it’s only 10 games in that slot.

Remember early 90s Arsenal Wrexham and days like that.

York City v Arsenal, Sutton v Coventry & Bournemouth v Man Utd were big cup upsets in the 80s.

Wrexham Arsenal too when Micky Thomas scored a super winner.

I remember watching that, probably soon after it was the start of the decline of the cup.
