Wexford Youths here too. Had a big rigmorale about never having or seeing the point of having a second team like Celtic and least lads now don't have to go to Waterford for their local footie fix but the system said I wasn't logged in when posted it and fcuked if I'm gonna retype it all !

I see you're in Waterford yourself. Used to work there so caught a few games but footie's just not for neutrals !

Looking at the schedule there's about 6 matches left that I can catch and three of them fecking involve Dundalk ! (incl one away, hopefully better than the last one there). Was hoping to catch an away close to Dublin i.e. Shelbourne, Kildare, Drogs. Would've particularly loved a trip to Tolka to see the lads play in the last game but should make the last home. After a relatively great start they've slipped badly at home although got a few draws away though. Anywhere off the bottom would be good or above Monaghan. Shelbourne and Kilkenny would be great.

Sure did u hear the eircom league is going to be on FIFA 2008 only the premier division though unless Mick Wallace can throw a few bob in there somewhere.

WexRed been to a few matches me self seen the two games against the blues down in the RSC but only been to 2 home games Limerick and Kilkenny in the league don't get back home that much but do keep and eye on the results. They have fallen badly but it was expected next season there will be a massive improvement. Mick, Pat Dolan & co. will have a lot more time to prepare the players unlike this season. The complex is unreal no club is near to it in the eircom league probably galway utd come the closest

Im a Drogheda man same as Stamullen Red above. Love the Eircom League, can't help it have grown up on the terraces of United Park try never to miss a game.
We go top if we can turn Bray over tonight.....ah you gotta love the Summer football, great replacement for Prem.

However my allegiance to the Drogs takes nothing away from the passion I have for Liverpool F.C

Ah Marko d Leecho's one of your mates then is he?....Pity he didn't make the grade at Drogheda, once Doolin has a disliiking towards a player they have no hope. Always remember him for the winner he scored in ET vs the Langers (Cork F.C.) in Setanta Cup 06.

Good talent though and definately got some of his Da's natural finishin' attributes

They've done extremely well regarding the setup and really had to throw a team together. A lot of away fans have been impressed by it and suppose intrigued by the novelty of a new club in an underexposed area of the country. I hear the squad has been trimmed from 28 to 22 now and the Under 21 team is full of Under 18s so trying to get them into the club earlier and be promoted to the senior team if good enough. Should work a lot better than the crash course in creating a squad literally from scratch.

Was shocked to hear my nephew was training up there with the Harriers (hurling!) Mick is a very clever fella alright like not going poaching any GAA footballers even though about 6 of the county team played under him when over the youth squads. A few soccer clubs complaining alright but hopefully progressing via the under 21 setup should ease that.

Heard Paul McGrath plays some footie up at the complex, has house in Wexford, but plays up front. Erm wonder if he'd fancy a job while he's about :)

Would love at some time in future a promotion simply to get to see them at aways in and about Dublin (including gracing United Park !). Never been a LOI head as there was no team I had an affinity with so its very weird to have one all of a sudden and as an adult to see other club's grounds for the first time and become more familiar with those clubs I never would've taken any notice of previously. I lived beside Tolka Park and never thought I'd see a Wexford team play there, my countymen would've been much more familiar with a different ground close by ! Its deffo a big adventure for those you had to make do with Waterford for years.

I always wonder could we take a leaf out of the GAA's book. I probably should be shot for many valid reasons its just I've seen the local reaction to the parochial nature of Wexford Youths and my niece and nephews wearing the jerseys (once they eventually came out). Reminded me instantly of GAA type support where the kids latched onto it immediately and felt it was their county team. Soon enough half my extended family had gone to matches. Maybe its just the area was deprived of a LOI presence but as soon as myself and my mates heard there were plans afoot we knew it'd be instantly very popular as was an oft made pub point. Not calling it Wexford Town FC or similiar probably helped.

I dunno has the likes of Kildare County experienced the same with natives identifying themselves with it as their team ?

I thought it strange myself that the Rovers v Bohs game isn't televised. I suppose its good in a way though to encourage people to actually go out and watch the game live. Drogs vs Galway is on Setanta on Monday instead.

Great win for us last night we played some stunning football, best I've seen from United Park all season. Check out Eircom Weekly next Mon night for four great goals.

Yeah they have the right foundations there regarding personel, facilities and local interest as very hard to get a club up and running from scratch. A great away win against the Cats there, a bit of a derby, to hopefully counter the recent slump.

I would admit its very hard to have an interest in LOI without an affiliation with a club, through local roots or father to son or whatever. Could never get into it previously as an neutral. Would love a future promotion to the Prem purely to see aways more accessible from my Dublin base. Most would be a new ground to me so is like discovering a whole new culture that were previously oblivious to (except the odd FAI Cup Final, CL qualifer and TV coverage).

Good stuff, sounds the exact same reaction. The addition of some clubs outside of cities should at least add some new blood to the league and big enough support if they're seen as a county team rather than town based. There's probably a few underexposed areas of the country, player and potential support wise, that could follow the same template. The city club buses may have get their suspensions fixed more often though :D But worth it for a stronger better attended league.

FAO -- WexRed, did you go see the Dundalk game after? Bad result but an expected defeat how did they play anyway?

Yeah I did. I was impressed by the setup on Saturday given it was all done from scratch. The 0-3 scoreline was extremely harsh the second being against the run of play when the keeper parried instead of catching and the last looking like an OG from where I was standing, had a deffo peno turned down too. Except for gifting two goals it was a good performance with a promising debut from Kyle Dempsey.

Really without the sloppy goals we should've got a point. I know it sounds very biased to say that about a 0-3 game but I remember being at the Spurs game at Anfield last year and thought they had the better of the first half and then we should've been 1-0 down with the Jenas chance but went up the other end and scored and added another two later. I had to admit to a Spurs mate over at it that it was never a 3-0 game, 'tis a funny old game.

Anyway left on my list of 'possibilities' are, believe it or not, Dundalk home and away, the Cats, Harps and Shelbourne home and away (last game of the season).

For a more bloated match report from myself - http://foot.ie/forums/showthread.php?t=64633

Was out at it myself, I finally made a match, and I reckon thats a very accurate description. We were the better team in the first half after a shaky start and yeah yer man Kyle was dangerous especially coming down the left wing often having the beating of his man and nearly scored after beating two. Good speed, ball control and was able to recover it more than once after momentarily losing it in a tangle - in other words got stuck in.

We're probably not cute enough though tending to shoot on goal given any chance rather than being more composed. Their second was against the run of play at the end of the first half which was a killer. Keeper parried a shot he probably should've held and they easily scored from the rebound. Third looked like an OG (I went to our attacking end both halves), the ball chipping in over the keeper off defender's foot, in a scrappier second half.

Thought we were poor from set pieces even though Sinnotts deliveries looked decent so maybe more a case of physically getting on the end of them. It got bit handbaggy towards the end, they had a guy sent off, and could see our lads had the passion and were frustrated with themselves gifting two goals like that.

We should've deffo had 2 in first half and had chances for 1 or 2 more. In second most dangerous moves were actually when we were defending a Dundalk free kick and outstretched leg from the end of the wall intercepted the sneaky pass out to the wing, we spotted I thought, and we broke quickly in numbers. We massively outnumbered them with 3 bearing down on them past their last defenders (in line or behind with the ball though). It was called back for offside not much inside their half and I seriously doubt it and certainly the players did, lucky no booking for saying so. Linesman called a few dodgy ones like when Kyle was hugging the touchline but kept marginal balls in.

We got and subsequently wasted a lot of free kicks around the area. They were strong in the air. But a blatant handball block in the area went unpunished when it was as clear a peno as I remember seeing, right in front of me and the linesman who had exact same view (but maybe not the same optician !). Incidently their man got sent off seconds after that, we were really having a got at them at that late stage. A peno would've been too late to change anything anyway but might've shown the scoreline up a bit. It was never a 3-0 match. I'd say a score draw or even us edging it would've been a more accurate reflection of the performances.

Considering Dundalk are top I'd be hopefull of getting results with that kinda performance against lesser teams especially given some decent away results. Can't believe it was Dempsey's debut, it didn't look it. That must be the player people were talking about before the match, I took it to be along the lines of "he won't be playing for the Under 21s then" presumably as he started for the senior side. Unfortunately of the remaining matches I can make the next Dundalk home and away are two. The Cats, Harps, Shelbourne (home + away) are the others.

Are you joking sold out mate. Mate's mate's Dad went down yesterday morning when they were selling any of the allocation the seasies and supporters club didn't buy and Spurs mate was doing the classic redial act (unbelievable I know) but no joy. Their phoneline (maybe literally one) was sh1te at all times and general allocation was sold out by Monday after being announced last Friday.

If I had been up Dublin the weekend I'd have just dropped down on Saturday morning myself but only got the mail about it after 4 on Friday. Was basically just going because mate is coming up from Wexford and might as well go and see a decent Prem team on your doorstep and have a few gargles with him. A pity about it now. It used to be common place including our own beloved Reds but 'tis rare enough now to have teams over with all the money elsewhere. You'll prob see Sunderland alright. Maybe after an international championship they might want to keep more local and hop over the pond.

Liverpool will always come first but I get to most Pats games in the summer. Nice sqaud coming together now and the midfield is quality. Dont think theres enough strength in dept to win the title but I think we'll keep the race interesting.

Went to Richmond Park last Thursday for the first time as mate was going to the Spurs game. Didn't know Inchicore at all beforehand but knew every pub (twice over) by 3 o'clock that morning (residents bar in the Hilton) after starting at 5...............oh yeah there was some match on too :D

Thought ye were decent actually and yer man Gareth Bale was getting skinned (have seen him twice in the flesh the first time being for Wales in Croker and if people reckon we're overpaying for players I can't see the 10m in him or the 16.5m in Bent for that matter). The ground is well hidden away, nicely integrated with the area though and good quality pitch. The pints of slop in the Black Lion should have a hazardarous sticker on 'em mind....

The new board are doing all they can to get the locals back involved in the club. There is massive investment going into the team, new academy and ground. This time last year it looked like the club was going nowhere fast but thankfully things have turned around.

I havent been in the Black Lion since the club took over McDowells but the pints were always hit or miss. In saying that I enjoy drinking in Inchicore. Theres always a good atmosphere around the place and it has managed to hang onto the 'old Dublin' vibe even with the immigrants, appartments etc

Was at Inchicore myself this season for Setanta Cup Semi. Theres a good atmosphere there when the grounds near full. Pats have a good set of fans have a lot of time for them. Think(well hope) it might be one year two soon for the league but ye have made some astute signings, I'm a big fan of Ndo and Keane, who's just signed.

As for the Black Lion I think it'll be back to the local in Drogheda for pints after the game in future ;)

Another Wexford Youths fan here. Only wish Mick had been involved when I was involved in under age football all those years ago :)

Again living on the Waterford/Kilkenny border its tricky getting to games. Managed to catch a few of the early ones at Newcastle - was at the game against Cobh and I'm unlikely to forget the weather that day til I draw my last breath. Also went to the cup game at the RSC where we played a second string side as the 1st team had played the day before.

Anyone here go on the foot.ie forums? Good sectioon over there dedicated to the Youths

Yeah often on that myself.

That Cobh match has gone down in history already, anybody that was at it, home or away support, says their bones still have dried out etc. always coming up as the "remember the time / were you at" match. Not even one season in and there's already die-hards and war stories to be told ;):D Most wind swept location in Wexford so when it rains I'd say it really rains. Good piece on the supporter's club site about the trip to Monaghan.

I hear the Waterford flights to manchester and birmingham are consistently 70 euro when booked in advance. Might be handy for ya for any Anfield trips this year.

More miss I reckon !!!

Thats exactly what I was thinking of the area. Was real Old Dublin and quite a few small pubs right beside the ground so had a localised village feel about it. All in all exactly what you want from a footie ground and its evirons. Quite unusual for me to "discover" a Dublin area I didn't really know at this stage (given I have no time for fancy newbie soulless areas with a million apartments a one Spar beside some feeble excuse for a pub)

You can't compare the two it's like comparing Angelina Jolie to Carol Vorderman. Glamour vs Charm....But you still definately would, to both for different reasons ;)

Sorry for double post but missed this, priceless stuff!!! :p:p:p

It's great Wexford have Dolan on board too. He's done good things for LOI, your club is in good hands. He even turned down the Derry job to stay with Wexford and keep his pundit job on Setanta, fair play. I have heard its a great set-up down there and look forward to a cup meeting or even league (hopefully in the near future and in Prem not Div 1) to check out the new set-up.

Hope your all enjoying the summer football, I know I am and continue to give the LOI support in years to come. I understand it's difficult if you dont have a bond with a local club to get into it.

I also understand all the guys on here who only follow The 'Pool as this in itself can be a full-time job/luxury/addiction

Super saints man myself, used to live 5 mins away from richmond, down in wexford now so no more games for me. Doin well this season and things looking good with new investor and Kerr back.
Regarding Fat Pat Dolan, I lost all the respect I used to have for him when he slated the Reds and particularly Robbie and Stevie in the Star and on Setanta numerous times last season, fat c**t

Bray Wanderers. I have often been down the Carlisle Grounds of a friday night!! They had a friendly with Wolves there recently for a players testimonial. I know 1 or 2 of the players myself.
