just my opinion, but I don’t know many LFC fans from Liverpool who despise the ‘tourists’. They know it’s part of the modern game and if you want to be a big club, it’s required. What annoys legacy fans is the fact the owners would rather not have them at all in the future. They are seen as impediment to profits. I thought FSG had figured out that you need the hardcore ‘legacy’ fans to create the atmosphere, flags, banners etc. They eventually came around with Spion Kop and SOS with help of Tony Barrett and Peter Moore as CEO. I was worried when Peter Moore left and commercial manager Billy Hogan was taking up the Reigns. He has no connection to the city, he is a pure business man, a numbers guy. Bringing it back to Klopp, he thrives of fans and vice versa. He sort of put the supporters in line in his first year. Stop moaning and get behind the team. He was making it clear last night that this Super League decision was nothing to go with players or team management. I am sure he was looking forward to end of lockdown and proper celebration for winning the league. The scenes after Madrid in Liverpool were unreal. Hard to imagine anything like that now if this goes ahead.
FSG need the legacy fans (season ticket holders and members) as they generate guaranteed income. Season ticket and membership fees are money in the bank no matter what happens on the pitch. That’s why they like the Super League..guaranteed revenue no matter what happens. Don’t get me wrong, they also want a good proportion of 1st time visitors at each game as they will spend in the shop. But they know they can’t rely on the fair weather fans because they will disappear depending on results. It’s not that long ago under Roy that you could pay at the gate for PL games. In relation to “tourists”, the Asian lads are regularly mocked and fleeced whilst a lot of Evertonians aren’t always happy to have their city taken over by a load of day trippers.
I'm not sure that many supporters resent "tourists"? It would be a bit rich of anyone based in Ireland to do so! That said, I'm not sure that it is a competition as to who is the greatest fan either. I have supported LFC for over 40 years. Does it make me a better supporter than someone from Thailand supporting the club for 5 years. Or someone from London who is supporting the club 25 years? I'm not sure. I remember when Drogheda won the league in 2007. We had a great night and I was chatting to a chap that I know who was originally from near Waterford who supported Drogheda for over 20 (barren) years as he had moved to the town. As far as we were concerned, he was as good a supporter as any of us. But he said to one of the lads, "but you are from Drogheda, it must mean more." And he may have had a point? Either way, if the ESL goes ahead, the club may lose a lot of local supporters and all that will be left is day-trippers.
Some lengthy answers here to questions surrounding the madness from earlier in the week. https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/fi...lF_X08QsV8GHXBCaOUD1R3m-G7hQ1zafqn6t5NbxXBBOg
Worth listening to managers press conference today, very passionate a couple of key points - he was delighted to get more pre season with a bigger pool than usual - sees Elliot as member of first team squad and along with Curtis ready for the next step - said Virg could have plenty 90 in the friendly if they had wanted to - got animated when ask if was a problem that Gini was not replaced. Long discussion about other teams having no limits on spending, that Curtis, Harvey and Keita can fill the void - asked the reporter who he thought the club should sign to improve the midfield. Why did he choose to get his lenses/lazor treatment now? He had money and time off to do it 5 years ago, or 10 years ago. A much changed appearance alright.
Reminded me of when I was young and my granny would take her glasses off…I was like ‘who even are you??!!’
Good reason- masks are a hassle for people who have to wear glasses. Thought he might have got it done to take a swipe at the guy that turned up at the Euros in full Klopp kit???
That's a good point. I wonder how many people who were happy enough wearing glasses, decided to get the laser surgery or switch to contacts because of masks? It is a pain in the hole.
Klopp keeping up his perfect record of leaving the summer transfer window being accused of having a squad that lacks enough depth.
