The vaccine greatly reduces your risk of both contracting the virus and transmitting it.

Double facepalm for Luke ("I'd take the vaccine tomorrow") O'Neill who admitted on radio this morning he was offered the vaccine a few weeks ago but turned it down.

No face palm at all mate. He's not refusing to have the vaccine,he didn't want to be seen to skip the queue as he doesn't consider himself a front line worker. He'll take it when it's his turn.

He explained why he refused it but in my opinion it makes him look silly after saying back in December when the first people were being vaccinated that he'd take it tomorrow if he could get it.
Just an observation, I'd say more people felt the same when they heard it.

I'm sure there's plenty who feel the same mate, but you left a very important part out when you initially made the observation. It came across like he doesn't trust the vaccine when that's not the case. If he'd of taken it when it was offered,he'd be getting hammered for skipping the queue. Overall I'd say he did a decent thing, other people will make up their own mind but it should be based on the whole story.

He would've been skipping the q last December too. Would've loved BOC to have pulled him on it but unfortunately he didnt.

It's not unfortunate he didn't pull him up on it mate,he'd of made a show of himself if he did. "I'd take it tomorrow" obviously wasn't a literal statement and you can't skip a queue that doesn't exist.

Reduces the risk of transmission, but by how much? ... for how long? ... are some vaccines better at stopping transmission than others ?

I don't know the answers for sure, and I don't expect you to either, but I'm confident that giving the 18-30 year olds licence to "go back to normal", significantly increases the risk for everyone else (that hasn't been vaccinated), so I don't support the idea of prioritising that age group.

The one dose J&J jab is less successful than one dose of pfizer or moderna which are 2 dose jabs, that's mad.

I disagree. We're reopening retail and hospitality before either cohort will be vaccinated and if we make it 80+% less likely that the cohort who will be most responsible for the spread contract covid, then it stands to reason there will be less spread. We'll all be operating under the exact same guidelines, and that's the age group most likely to break those guidelines anyway. Its a moot argument now anyway, that kite didn't fly very well at all.

Simon Harris (the higher education minister) has managed to be first to get the news out there that we should be seeing some further relaxation of restrictions in the May on top of what was already flagged. Poor oul Stephen Donnelly will probably have to come on TV tonight and say that Christmas has been cancelled out to 2024 in line with NPHET guidelines now.

140k people vaccinated in last week. That's not bad considering no Oxford vaccine

I'm only one bracket away now and I heard there's another increase in the Pfizer delivery on the way with a new line now approved for use.
