I wonder what the solution there is, maybe reduce the cash payment each week, substituting it for credits or vouchers that are unique to the individual, for paying for electricity, gas, groceries etc? I see that Stephen Donnelly is trying to push ahead, so unfortunitely, it's a problem that we'll soon have to deal with. There was a recent news article (think it may have been the Irish Examiner) which quoted the price of both a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, and a ( 12 pack? ) of Bulmers, birth sides of the border. Both were almost half of the price, and that's before the new pricing kicks in. The article also made reference to the risk for jobs in the boarder counties, where staff in of licences, pubs, and related business, would be particularly at risk. Common sense, and in counties that already struggle to create employment, but clearly not a concern for Government.
I wonder what the solution there is, maybe reduce the cash payment each week, substituting it for credits or vouchers that are unique to the individual, for paying for electricity, gas, groceries etc? You want to take away peoples choice with that pittance they have to live on??? YOU suggest giving the unemployed vouchers lest they get drunk every night. And YOU want to be taken seriously on a message board of possibly the most socialist football club support in the league. Imagine what YOU must think of the unemployed or underpaid when you discuss it with your peers Possibly over a drink ?? Which is your right And everyone else’s.
Then what is - the people in question won't get more money, if they spend more on drink and smokes, they've less for the essentials like food, heat etc. so what is it, seeing as your so quick to ditch on my post ?
Had a feed of takeaway pints on Sunday. Was €6 a pop for a plastic cup and €2 deposit for the use of a glass. Collected the first lot ourselves then got a couple of deliveries Didn't mind paying the price as I was drinking Guinness so was worth it. Not sure what the lad drinking Heineken got out of it after the first few, i would have gone to the cans myself after the initial novelty
you have exposed a contempt of the poor so deeply ingrained you cannot understand why others cannot concur with your disgusting prejudice.
Go and read my post again, I've asked what the solution is, and asked if it is substitution of cash for vouchers, to ensure that people use some of the money for essentials, like food and heat, I haven't said that's what should happen !
Well that’s not the solution. Controlling how people spend their time & money is a sickening SOLUTION Some foreign lads in the past thought up of SOLUTIONS for populations they couldn’t understand & barely tolerated Maybe you’d have contemplated them at the time as necessary too?
I'm not a mod on here but I suggest that you attack the post and not the poster, whatever you think of the view, personal abuse ain't on either.
Another two kegs from Germany arrived today of cider . Nearly 30 pints in them for less than €60. Have another two kegs of larger coming during the week, and I’ve about 7 kegs in boxes and three in the fridge , so what ever happens this summer I’ll be well stocked. Beats the paying the taxes enforced on the Irish off licenses . Two kegs including delivery from Holland of Heinken €60. Same two kegs in Ireland €100-€120. Madness.
Bollocks He wanted to stigmatize a significant segment of the population I’ll attack that mindless prejudice wherever I see it Thank you very much.
No it isn't bollocks, you don't get to apply the rules if and when you see fit. Read the site rules. Keep the personal abuse out of it regardless of the post. You can challenge the post. You don't have the right not to be offended.
Novelty is the key word here. Ordered a couple of Guinness on Saturday myself and then had cans in the fridge. It didn't travel up the road very well and the second one was a bit flat when I got to it. I think now I've scratched the itch with having a poured pint I'll hang on again till I can sit down at the pub and have it. On the other hand they do have benches out the front so I may go for a walk this weekend and find my way there
In Garretts defence he took a problem which Mick put forward that someone's family was possibly going hungry or not getting some other essentials because someone was spending all of their money on booze and that the situation is going to get worse with these new minimum alcohol prices in place and he made a suggestion in that very narrow scenario. Whilst I hate the idea of anyone being told what to spend their money on I have a greater problem with a family possibly going hungry because someone is spending the families money on booze or drugs or cigarettes for that matter. But sadly the issue with that isn't to be tackled at a point by giving someone specific vouchers, it's the disease itself that needs to be tackled but that's not an easy thing to do and if you gave me the option of having kids going hungry because someone was spending the money on booze or a system that would ensure that the family were provided for through some direct method the right thing to do is obviously to make sure people aren't going hungry even if it means infringing on someone's freedoms.
I bought a double door fridge from a company in Dublin and they delivered it to Wexford the next day. It’s the ones you see in the bars behind the counters . So you would fit 3 kegs in it, and once they are cooled for 24 hours you can use them straight away.
Nothing at all pal. The machine is a tap, and cooler together. The kegs come loaded with gas etc and it’s just a matter of cooling them for 24 and then sticking them into the machine. You get 14 pints per keg and there is a wide variety at the moment. It’s a Heinken machine so it’s all Heinken beers at the moment. It’s a great little device. A lot of the off licenses in Dublin are starting to sell the kegs of between €50-€60 at the moment but if you take a spin over the border about 50 minutes from Dublin you can get a Keg for £31-£33 pound.
Ill live my life my way. I see his post for what it was. A dig at the working class who are unable or unwilling to mind themselves ? In another era progressive thinkers like him would use the workhouses as a SOLUTION Lets say hed made a similar statement about black people, gay people, women, jews. Most on here i hope would rightly take offence. I apologise for calling him a gobshite but not for pointing out the lazy language used to stigmatise the working class.
There's never a simple solution to a complex problem and taking money and flexibility away from those already struggling will do far more harm than good. I'm not talking about anybody in particular when I say this, because its a common trait in society but why do people who've never been poor always think they'd be great at managing it? Being poor is very expensive because many of the options available to those not struggling aren't available to you,it's a constant barrage of decisions to be made that always leave you chasing your tail and increasing your living expenses, not only that but you're making decisions from a different mindset. What's rational becomes far more complicated. I think after lockdown many will be better equipped to understand that point because loads of people will have felt they weren't living but only existing, and what's rational won't always be the same to somebody who's living a more comfortable life. If there's no pleasure or temporary escape from just existing in a place where your dignity is being battered on a daily basis, a person can easily end up at a point where they can't cope, and where does that leave his or her kids? The pictures a lot of people get in their heads about these situations are simplistic and often unrealistic, if they weren't only the very cruel would think replacing money with vouchers might be a good idea,or that people in those situations don't deserve nice things. I choose to believe most people aren't cruel and its a lack of understanding.
