I really hope this thread doesnt turn into a "Rafa Benitez Mega type thread" so I'd like the club/manager to offer him a new contract and end the speculation before it goes into over drive.

The reason I started the thread is because I just seen Xabi modelling the new away kit on the official site. As Trucker would tell you we have 64 professionals on the books so its seem's strange to use him unless they plan on keeping him.

Here's hoping its the 1st sign in a positive summer.

I always feel the first thing any club should do in the summer is tie down their best players, Kuyt Agger Rafa all signing their deals recently makes the place much more positive.

I believe their is definitely no way Xabi will go, I'd rather Lucas Plessis and Spearing all left before Xabi

Xabi Alonso is one of our main players imo we dont have anyone to pick out the passes when he doesn't play. I dont think he can be allowed to go anywhere.

They way he was treated last summer i wouldnt have any ill will towards him if he did go elsewhere, but i think he proved a point this season and will be a red for years to come.

I seriously hope your right, it would be a crying shame to lose a player of his quality!

I would think its more important to keep Xabi than bringing in any potential new signings. He has been immense this season, kept his head down and never mouthed off to the press when more bitter players would have spat out the dummy.

In my opinion he has been our best player this season and he is one of 6 or 7 players we simply HAVE to keep. I would still be slightly concerned that he will be sold though because apparently Perez wants him badly at Real Madrid. Great passer, tough tackler and he also has a great undrstanding of the values and ethos of the club which the fans appreciate he would not be easily replaced.

Look lads, The papers have Alonso sold, Barry signed and Forlan in for his medical.

It's silly-season and all they're doing is recycling the same old crap from last year.

None of those stories happened last year even though we tried our best to make 2 of them happen.

    Times have changed.

The only one I'd give credit to is the Barry deal, which may be done already.

I know some will say that it means Alonso is gone, but Rafa ain't stupid. Alonso was in a rut this time last year. But he was a star this season.

Alonso will stay, we've bugger-all interest in Forlan, and Barry will probably sign.

    My opinion...

Its gonna be a long summer if theres a headline about Alonso going every second day. To have a chance at winning the league next season we need to strenghten the squad is only a few places. Selling Alonso (on his form this season) will not strenghten the squad, unless you bring somebody like Iniesta or Fabregas (arguably) in his place and thats not going to happen.

I felt Alonso signed his death warrant with Benitez when he refused to travel to Milan. I hope that particular hatchet has been buried but with Benitez you never know.

Think Alonso will stay. Barry on the left against the big teams and in the center against the little teams we want to attack against with Macherano on the bench
