Broadband

What's fast broadband? I'm no good with computer stuff but I think my broadband is a bit sh1t like. it's 3.6mbs. I've got no idea what this means though in terms of whether it's slow, fast or normal or what. Any help?

 

3mb should be more than enough for your typical web user,if you're dowloading stuff though you'd be better of with 7mb but imo you'd need to weigh up the cost per month versus your usage - costs can be pretty bad but if you're getting the use and the speed you may not mind

Far from an expert myself but I would imagine 3mb would be loads for most users. As you say could be your computer. You can do a tidy up on discspace etc. that could speed things up considerably. You can get great help from the people on Boards.ie

 

are you using 3g broadband? 3g will show the speed as 3.6 but you will be lucky to get 1mb.

try speedtest.net for a speed test of your broadband

 

I get about 0.4mb on 3 mobile broadband.

It's little better than useless.

ha, no prob mate. on the 3g now. its pathetic but true! theres talk of eircom roling out broadband down here soon but you wouldnt hold your breath, you know how Ireland works....

 

have you not got ntl? i have the package,tv,phone and net for 75 a month i think it is, find the broadband very fast and i have just the basic

i have 7.6mb with eircom and its fecking useless

i upgraded from 3 to 7.6 for extra 5 a month and dont notice any diff at all

why cant there be a proper broadband that does as it says , performs consistantly

 

Hi mate, from reading your post, you have 3negabytes down load and 300kilobytes upload. This is a standard speed for now a days.

Broadband speeds can vary from location to location and from supplier to supplier.

Who are you with and roughly what town are you located?

 

I have bt broadband and it is good and fast with good downloads but it is also E40 a month.

I am looking to get wireless and have been looking at meteor and also vodaphone but cant seem to find out their speeds and none of my mates have it to tell me if it is fast or not.

Anyone here have it and can update me? dont mind to much about how much you can download it is the speed i need it for really.

 

i have 3g broadband with 3, the true speed is around 1mb at best, .1 at worst. somewhere inbetween is usually the case.
