Didn't see it myself, but just wondering how much better it is than the one that comes with the PS3...if they are pretty similar, it might be better value to go for the PS3 for value...just a thought...

Yeah its a brill offer the blue ray player is good too but throw in a bit
extra and you get the PS3 and the blue ray player built in this is the
    best deal IMO:D

    Hi

Was chatting with a mate recently, who reckoned buying the PS3 was still the best way to go, not just because of the Games machine being included for similiar money, but also because he said there was some handy additional ports / connections on the PS3 which were not on most other blueray players.

Im not really up to speed on this kinda stuff, but did find the spec here for a PS3 if anyone wants to run the eye over it:

    http://www.ps3rules.com/ps3-specs.htm

From a quick glance, things like the following might be handy:

    USB Front x 4, Rear x 2 (USB2.0)
    Memory Stick standard/Duo, PRO x 1
    SD standard/mini x 1
    CompactFlash (Type I, II) x 1

    Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) x 3 (input x 1 + output x 2)
    Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g
    Bluetooth 2.0 (EDR)

    Bluetooth (up to 7)
    USB 2.0 (wired)
    Wi-Fi (PSP)
    Network (over IP)

    AV Output
    Screen size: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
    HDMI: HDMI out x 2
Analog: AV MULTI OUT x 1
Digital audio: DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) x 1

do your research carefully, most of the standalone blu-ray players on the market are actually worse than the PS3 blu-ray in terms of speed and performance.

For now, i reckon a PS3 is your best option and when the standalone players get better and cheaper, it'll be time to move onto one of them, especially if you intend on expoiting blu-ray's superior sound and as Garrett rightfully mentioned, the ps3 has great external media features.
