Liverpool forward Fernando Torres has set his sights on beating Didier Drogba to the Premier League golden boot. Chelsea striker Drogba strolled to the award for the Premier League's top scorer last season with 20 goals. However, Liverpool's £21.7million summer signing Torres insists Drogba will have a rival this year. Torres has made a positive start to his Anfield career, but he insists the best is yet to come in his battle with Drogba. "I am happy with my work at Liverpool," Torres told the Daily Star. "But really I warn the fans they have only seen 60 per cent of the real Torres. Triumph "To be the top scorer in the Premier League will not be easy, but in the first few weeks I have shown it will not be a parade for Drogba to repeat his success of last season." Torres netted a brace in Liverpool's crushing 6-0 win over Derby on Saturday, to take his Premier League tally to three, and he has admitted how much he enjoyed the experience. "On Saturday I realised how to be a hero at Anfield," Torres added. "The people were happy with my goals and it was a sensational experience. "I am not obsessed with the number of goals I score this season and at the moment I am still a nobody in the Premier League. "My challenge is to triumph in Liverpool and become the best striker in the club's history. "I know that this will be difficult, but I am prepared for the adventure."
"My challenge is to triumph in Liverpool and become the best striker in the club's history. "I know that this will be difficult, but I am prepared for the adventure." Has all the attributes to become one of the greats!! Hes given us the razor sharpness up front that weve needed!!
Torres is class and seems to have everything to his game, lightening pace, power, great control etc. went to see him play in the nou camp two seasons ago and he tore barca apart scoring twice making puyol look ordinary in barcas championship winning season.. The only main difference with him and the diver drogba will be how many games he plays wth rafas rotation system.
Torres has everything that our strikers have been missing since Owen left. While we have had pace with Bellamy and Cisse before Torres has good control and better strength on the ball in general. Cisse's motto was hit it as hard as you can in the direction of the goal while Torres is usually about placing a ball ie Chelsea or Derby or those audatious lobs he scored for Atletico. I know it's early days but I'll be stunned if he doesn't score 20 plus in all compititions.
He's a winner through and through basically and has that ego that strikers need without being an arsehole. Isn't afraid to say he's aiming to be the club's best ever, will give Drogba a run for his money and before our first game was the only one brave enough to say completely unguarded that he came here to the biggest English team with the intention of winning the league, end of. He's shown he's physically able for the Prem and the rest we already knew he had. Defenders will have sleepless nights over him once he gets in his stride and I reckon he'll particularly shine in Europe......can't wait. As for Rafa's rotation it looks like he'll be in the small core group with Gerrard, Carra, Agger, Finnan (maybe threatened by Arbeloa now) and Reina that will simply play when they're fit. .....forgot to mention hasn't he never been injured before as well, go on our kid
Touch wood it stays that way, and we don't jinx him! Torres has all the credentials to be a world-beater, go get 'em lad
refreshing to see a guy with total self belief, backed up by amazing ability. Seems to be honest as well, no Drogbaesque theatricals when a defender comes closer than 2 yards of him.
Nando is great. There is no reason why he cant be top scorer in the FAPL this season. He is pacey, strong and knows where the back of the net is. Could be an anfield legend in the making.
I am in absolute awe of this fella. Absolutely unbelievable pace and a super touch. Had a bit of a tingling when the Kop were chanting his name the last day, I reckon its going to be happeing a whole lot more over the coming years.
