Disaster, although at least its only a couple of weeks Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard has broken the toe he injured against Toulouse on Wednesday. The Reds skipper was forced off during the UEFA Champions League win in France and scans have now revealed a hairline fracture. Gerrard will play with the injury against Chelsea on Sunday, but he will then be required to rest for at least seven days - which rules him out of England's friendly with Germany. Rest needed "We have been told by our doctors that this is not a big risk but he will clearly then need to rest after the Chelsea match," said Benitez. "He will need one or two weeks' rest. "He will train but he will not be able to join up with England. "I will talk to Steve McClaren and I am sure he will understand."
I don;t think he;ll miss a game for us. A miracle recovery in time for next weekends game. The kind of ones you always see United and Chelsea players getting after they;ve pulled out of friendly internationals
Yeah, this is Rafa and the other coaches just not wanting him to play in the German game, good call, its only a friendly and we have a big game against chelsea and the 2nd leg coming up!
Wish it was that simple mate, he has actually fractured a toe so not as though we are making up a muscle strain. I am sure he will play but he may not be at 100% & if not there is always a chance he may not play Sunday
Bloody heck. From my fanatsy football team, Gerrard, Baines, Berbatov, Lita and Essien injured. I must be cursed. I pick a load of scum united players
Never understood how players can play a game with a broken toe and then just rest after it. Surely it would just make the injury worse? And as said already he wont be 100%
Rafa sounded pretty confident in him playin on SSN, he said he would have a few injections so he would not be playing in pain!
Out of disaster comes opportunity. If he misses Sunday's game, then I can't think of a more opportune time to prove to the Southern press that we are not a 1 man team. Step forward messrs Alonso & Mascherano. My first post here.....hello all
Hey mate, welcome aboard! Its a good point about Alonso & Mascherano stepping up to the mark and showing everyone what we're made of, and we have Sissoko and Levia in reserve as well. The thing is Stevie seems to have that extra spark in him that gives us an edge over the opposition on the field. The lad is Liverpool through and through, is 110% determined to lift number 19 as soon as possible, and has a drive that can give him that extra yard of pace which can change a game in an instant. So while I agree that we have players capable of covering for Stevie, at the end of the day we need him to add an extra dimension to the team which could prove to be a major factor come the seasons end.
gerrard on the right I think. Chelsea midfield is too strong so having alonso and momo/mach in there will kick lumps out of the blue snobs. The options we have around the park is truly staggering now. Its a pity we didnt have the finances from day 1 when rafa arrived.. worth the wait though =p
Not as strong without Essien (if he's unavailable) - I'd go so far as to say they would miss Essien more than we would miss Gerrard on Sunday. Impossible to say who will play & where I think, especially in midfield - plenty of options though thankfully
Carvalhio is a doubt as well. If Carvalhio, Essien (and maybe even John Terry?) are missing, then hopefully it will be a repeat of last season's result.
I hope all three are fit for them cos we're gonna beat them anyway better to beat their full team than to have to listen to Maureen go on again after the game about the unfairness of the result.
Even if they are passed fit, we have the firepower now to turn them over especially in Anfield. I'm quietly confident we can get a result with Stevie leading a great bunch like he's a man on a mission to bring home #19. At least if they have a clean bill of health we won't have to listen to moaninho whinging about being cursed with injuries if we beat them.
