    Hi,

A friend of mine got a speeding ticket in the door. She was caught doing 110 in a 100 zone. She was under emotional duress at the time as she was given bad news about her mother who she was going up to see at the time.

Is there some rule about there being a 10% variance allowed? Or have a made that up.

Also could she have any grounds for appeal, as points on her license will stop her from being able to get a certain job that she has her degree in.

Cheers in advance for any advice.

I thought the tolerance was about 3%
They are hard to get out of anymore especially with the speed vans.

No its 10% under 60 kpm and 3% over that. Your friend is as well to pay it and tell the employer. Slow down is my advise as them vans are every where.

if it came in the door then its probably the speed van's. Nothing to do with Gardai anymore.

Also the 10% was historically the case for 2 reasons, guards were given discression on when to do someone and its because the car speedo is calibrated on the low side so when your doing 60 on the clock its actually something like 56. Your sat nav will give you a more accurate reading.

Your friend is as well to pay it, going to court over something like this will cause more hassle than it'll be worth.

Yeah I think this appears to be her best option.
How does one go about this. Providing she has a willing candidate?

I think you need to man up and pretend you were driving Eric

I'm sure she'd be very grateful...

AFAIK, she fills out the form she got with the ticket and gives the other drivers details. Send it back to the station with the notice, and then they will forward it to the other driver.
