Over the last week or so we have been targeted by spammers trying to make accounts, thankfully none have got through my net and were able to post. But its a pain having to go through them all (about 100 new accounts per day). So I am closing the site to new members while I look into improving the registration system so I can maybe filter more of them out even before they register. Dub13
Thats great work and very annoying for you to have to deal with all that crap. Just so I know, what is a spammer??? Im not that technical yet, sorry guys.
Its basically a computer program setup to register new accounts on sites, then post a link to porn or whatever. They get paid per click.
We taught about that before but the feeling was it would lock out to many people.I will sort this when I have the time to go through it proper.
We'd be like the masons, could have secret meetings, sacrafice virgins etc, it would be great Craic, Dan Brown type shit
I'd be worried to recommend someone in case they turn out to be a wum. You never know when some people let lose on the Internet
Paul, What about a simple question in the sign on process, such as something like this. 'Please tell is in no more than 30 words why you support the reds?'
The question thing is a option I may try, something simple like how many time have we won the league.I mean if you don't know that you should not be a member of here anyway. Very simple to implement as well.
E-mail approval is prob a good way to go, the person registering would have to click a link from a e-mail that they receive when ty register to complete the registration
Have that in place already as part of the current system and still getting over 100 of these ****s a day.
If there is a obvious theme with the e-mail address maybe manual approval of registrations? If you got a few bodies together it might not be that time consuming Might be a temp solution till you think of another way
