Photograph: Richard Sellers-Sportsphoto Christopher Samba, the Blackburn Rovers captain, is intent on leaving the club in protest at the decision of the new owners, the Venky's Group, to sack Sam Allardyce. The Indian poultry group dismissed Allardyce within a month of completing its takeover of the club and have put Steve Kean in temporary charge as a long-term replacement manager is sought. Samba is so infuriated by his former manager's exit that he is determined to secure a move away and is expected to make a formal transfer request this morning. "If this is the way the club's going to be run from now on, I don't want to be part of it and I want to leave," the 26-year-old said. "As captain it's very difficult to say this but I've thought long and hard about it. Nobody in football understands the decision to sack Sam. We could have been relegated last year and Sam saved the club, so how can he be treated like this now?" Samba exempted Rovers' chairman, John Williams, from blame, before pleading for a swift decision over Allardyce's replacement. "I'm sure Mr Williams would not have made this decision. He's a football man and respects what a great job Sam has done," he said. He added: "The players and fans need answers about the club's future. Unless we commit to who the manager is, how can we attract big players in January?" I'd certainly be interested in Samba. Dominant in the air, quicker than what we have and a serious threat in the opposition area. £8million may be a tad excessive but I'm sure we could throw in a makeweight to bring the price down.
Only 26, think we already have enough strong in the air type center halfs, would rather a more ball playing type as Agger is never going to do anything.
I think he's a good defender but I don't thinks he's any better then what we currently have.Would prefer hangeland to be honest.
At last count we had 1 strong in the air type centre half. Skrtel is weak in the air and Carragher was never that dominant. Paddy the Greek is our only option
i would count the greek as our only strong in the air centre half. im not too worried about a ball playing centre half - i would just like 2 mean defenders who dont want to concede goals. when it comes to playing the ball i'll be happy to see them give a 10 yard pass to meireles and let him dictate the play.
At the moment I wouldn't even consider Skrtel in the starting 11 even with injuries to Carra and Agger. Can Kelly or Wilson defend as bad. In the last few games he has really let himself down and unable to do the simple things even. If I honestly ask myself who would I rather see playing alongside Carra. Well it would be Samba over Skytel and the Greek. Then Agger if he gets his fitness back and actually doesn't get injuried, well he would be before Carra and Samba but can't see that happening he will always have his injury problems I feel.
Not the worst shout in the world. I'd prefer we went for someone a bit better but if money is tight then he is decent shout.
Never knew he was 26, he'd be decent for that but I'd prefer to get somebody better than him as well and ship out one of our current centre backs
