Just curious folks, we have 5 decent center halves at the club, Cara, Skrtel, Agger, Soto & Martin Kelly. Who do you think is our best pairing and why ??? Me personally, Hmmmmm, Cara & Agger. Cara....enough said and Agger because he's quick strong and has a sweet left peg, Thats just my opinion. Anyone else ?

    Carra's getting slower,
Skrtel hasn't been the same player since his jaw injury,
Agger's struggled to find the form he showed when he first came,
Soto's fine as back up but I wouldn't want him as a regular centre half.
I'd have no problem with giving Kelly a chance and see how he does.
The best we have at the moment is probably JC and Agger.

    Probably carra and agger.
Skertel is a good back up for both
soto for europa lg carling cup
If Kelly keeps improving at the rate he is, he could force his way into the team, Im really impressed with him but maybe its just a little too soon.

Can't argue with an Agger and Carragher pairing myself at the moment. The big Greeks been pretty unlucky, anytime I've seen him I've been pretty impressed.

I'd go with Carra & Skrtel myself, though Carra is clearly not as good a defender as he once was and is only going to get worse.

Agger can be inconsistent at times and same applies to Skrtel.

Can never really see Skrtel & Agger being as good a partnership as Carra & Hypia, or a top centre back pairing like Terry & Carvalho or Vidic & Ferdinand (when both partnerships when at their best)

Would like to see Kelly over the next year or so pushing for a starting place a centre back as I hope he can be better than either Agger or Skrtel.

Depends on opposition. I'd have nick and Marty in for some games e.g stoke. Drogba tends to destroy carra and agger so I'd have skrtel there too. I really think carra has declined so much since the tail end of the 2008-9 season that if I were coach he would not be guaranteed his place

Personally it doesn't bother me who play's center back, but against team's that come to Anfield and tend to sit back then I would defo play agger because he like's to bring the ball into midfield and if it open'sd up he'll just have a pop on goal

wouldnt have agger in my team at all - i'm not bothered by this 'he can bring the ball outta defence' malarky..his primary function is to defend and he aint great at that in my eyes...ive never seen him as a natural defender, more of a guy who played midfield one time but who wasnt agile or quick footed to last in there. He also loses concentration a lot. my partnership would be nick the greek and skertl - both natural born defenders, skertl is decent in the air, good on the ground and mops up well behind - nick is in there to win stuff in the air, which he does 99% of the time. carra, for alll his heart and organisation ability, has declined so fast that he cant cover the ground anymore, is beated time and again for pace and is losing way too many 50/50 aerial battles. skertl adn nick for me all day - nick, despite his lack of pace (ala hyppia) has compensated by having excellent positional ability and is rarely caught outta position

Id rather see Agger try and bring it out of defence, and try and build up an attacking move...then see us adopt the Hoof the ball policy up to Torres, whos usually on his own.

Skrtel needs to keep his hands to himself in the box.

Kelly and Agger. Carras legs are gone and he is'nt cut out for the top level anymore. Harsh but true.

Pick any of them with the exception of Agger. I dont rate him as high as some people do. He drives me nuts with his gimp when he loses his man, as if its not his fault. Doesnt have the awareness that a top centre back requires.

If Im honest, they all have potential but never rose to the mark and none of them would tie Carra's shoe laces at his best anything less is just not good enough.

Carra legs are gone but still a better option then Agger or Skytel or anyone for that Matter.

For me Skytel for the big games like United, Chelsea and Agger for game against lower team so that he can play the ball out with having to hoof it up the field.

People seem to have rose tinted glasses when it comes to Soto. He wasalright in a couple of games last season however would be clear 4th choice for me. His stupid tackle in the Derby is something I could see him being prone to. Good against teams like Bolton, Stoke and maybe Blackpool, but quality like Rooney or Drogba would turn him inside and out.

Srktel for me is also prone to rash decisions. Against West Brom he was all over West Brom players at corners and could have easily gave away a peno. Stupid tackle against city as well. Strong and dependable on most part, but for me not in the same bracket as top centre halfs in premiership.

Agger is a mystery. Some days he looks great, composed on the ball and times tackles well. Other days it does not take much to get him in a muddle and seems to always pick up injuries. Has the attributes and still relatively young.

Kelly is improving and he is second choice right back. Can see him taking similar route as Carragher by eventually moving into centre back.

Carragher is still last line of defence, rarely has a bad game and he can organise the back four and read the game. See Kelly as his successor rather than anyone else.

I think if we are looking for week in week out partership in the Premiership, I would go for Carragher and injury free Agger.

I was watching him at the weekend and was so lucky on numerous occassions not to give away penalties. He definitely needs to cut that out or will be punished. :-(
