I for one dont want them here, to me its just another letdown from the FAI to be bringing that lot here by invitation.. what do ye think?

England are on the verge of returning to Dublin for the first time since their rioting supporters caused the abandonment of the friendly in Lansdowne Road 15 years ago.

The FAI have contacted the English FA with a view to filling the vacant November 17 international date when neither team are involved in 2012 European Championship qualifiers.

The approach from the FAI to the English FA comes four months after informal contact was made between the sides' respective Italian managers, Giovanni Trapattoni and Fabio Capello.

"I spoke with Capello about it," said Trapattoni. "I looked for him and told him we wished for a game. But England have many other agreements.

"I talked with him maybe two or three times and I think they are afraid! "Well, maybe not, but I was with him and I said, 'when will we play this game?' but he said he already had many other games."

England were committed to World Cup warm-up matches since that conversation took place and, even if Capello fails to survive the managerial axe after their disappointing World Cup exit, the English FA are seemingly open to the FAI's offer.

Despite obvious concerns about hooliganism within the new Aviva Stadium and the surrounding areas following events of 15 years ago, the evidence of South Africa this summer indicates that police successfully grounded all major hooligan elements.

However, it remains to be seen whether security could be enforced with similar rigidity within the context of an isolated, one-off encounter. FAI chief executive John Delaney, when asked about security issues similar to those of the Lansdowne riots, stressed at the Aviva Stadium's official opening last month that they were confident about security arrangements, an opinion backed up by stadium director Martin Murphy.

The first soccer game in the new Aviva Stadium may also feature Wayne Rooney, thanks to England's early World Cup exit, as Manchester United have already been lined up for a visit on August 4, followed by World Cup quarter-finalists Argentina a week later.

Meanwhile, Stephen Hunt looks set to miss both of Ireland's Euro 2012 qualifying games in September.

It was hoped the winger would be close to match fitness at the start of the season but Wolves boss Mick McCarthy reckons he will not be back until October, ruling out the trip to Armenia on September 3 and the first competitive game at the new Lansdowne Road against Andorra four days later.

"Hunt won't be fit until maybe October, but there's a good side to that in terms of the two-week breaks in August and September with two Saturdays missed," McCarthy said.

I know they play for that lot, but so do Terry and Roooooney..

Anyway, this isnt about players, and just because Gerrard and Carra play for them, doesnt mean i should support them, you will find this attitude prevailant on merseyside too, not just in ireland.

But they destroyed landsdown last time they were here, threw seats and crap on our fans below and should have been expelled... I thought the only time we would see them back was if we were scheduled to play in a qualifier.

The Queens visit, well thats a whole other story!! lol

Not bothered either way but just can't see what's in it for either side. Why would they want to play us unless it's a qualifier and as for the money we could sell out lansdowne playing france!!

There is so many entries into Dublin and the cost would be little. Saying that because SA had no trouble is not to say wont happen here

There are plenty of fans on the Irish side praying and waiting for this match to take "revenge"

I have mixed feelings on the game, love to seeit happen but also cant see there not being some form of trouble

We'll beat them i think, in a football sense now im talking about...Would be a interesting game, considering we havnt played them too much over the past few years...

Dont think there would be any trouble at this..Secruity would be too tight and the English FA would only want Genunie fans travelling..

I know all about attitudes in Liverpool being from there.

i don't support England or nothin but most of my family do and not all England fans did that. Not all English are like that.

Yeah that's very true. England are shit like. The should be aiming higher for a well better side. I don't understand why the FAI would even wanna get England.

Someone said there about France, now that I'd love to see. Revenge on the pitch as opposed to in the stands like

Well if there are I don't know of any waiting to take "revenge". And if they are there are they are not "fans" on the Irish side...they are "fans" of trouble and they just need any excuse...and you get them everywhere...not just in England.

The fact that their hooligan element didn't travel to south africa, because of money and some had their passports taken, would make this an ideal trip for those cnuts to come to Dublin and try to cause the same havoc they did in '95. They have no real contentious trips in qualifying so this would be their holy grail. Big ron suggests the fa would only want genuine fans coming, thats a given but how could you stop the neanderthal's from stoke, huddersfield, barnsley, oldham and the like gaining entry to the country, it would be impossible to control. What about the cost of such an operation? can the country afford it? especially as they're intent in wasting many more of our millions on a visit by the dried up oul imperialist cnut.
As was said it could be suicidal by the engerlish fa to take a chance on this game in the middle of their 2018 bid, because I guarantee their scumbag quota would make it their business to cause trouble over here. So I doubt if they would be so stupid....but then again it is the fa.

Im not saying that this problem is just in England nor am i saying these people are welcome, all im saying is that if LOI fans cant got to certain games around the capital without trouble, i cant see much chance of this passing off without trouble.

Ive seen this first handand unfortunatly this is part of LOI for many years now and has happened outside the capital aswel

Off topic slightly but Ireland play against Northern Ireland in 2011 also, again this could be a potential flash point, but saying that, ive being to plenty of Setanta Cup games both north and south of border and little trouble

My point is that there will always be certain sections intent on causing trouble on both sides

Agreed. I was in the Upper East Stand on that night in Feb 1995 and even though I was on the opposite side to where the trouble was it was a frightening experience.
