FERNANDO Torres is happy to stay at Liverpool next season. That is the opinion of his agent Jose Antonio Peton – and it will be music to the ears of Anfield fans.

It is also a timely boost for under-pressure boss Rafa Benitez. Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all believed to be interested in signing the Spanish hitman.

Chelsea and City probably lead the race, with Peton admitting it would be difficult for Torres (left) to move back to Spain.

Peton told Spanish station Punto Radio: “For the moment I can assure fans that Fernando will continue at Liverpool next season.

“Everything is down to Liverpool’s attitude but for the time being Fernando is happy at the club and has a good contract.

“Liverpool have not spoken to us about his future, so he is just concentrating on playing at the World Cup.”

Thanks christ for that, he'll give us one more year and if things don't happen he'll prob be off next year. Delighted at that news, Nando is a legend.

His agent saying that means nothing....we take it with a pinch of salt when they say a player wants to leave so why do we believe when they say hes staying. For all we know that could be his agents way of forcing a much higher bid and salary than is being touted in the papers. When or IF Nando comes out and says it himself i'll believe it. The very fact his agent said "it depends on Liverpools attitude" is leaving the door wide open for offers in my opinion

    Hodgson on Torres talks

Roy Hodgson today declared Fernando Torres is not for sale at any price after positive talks with the striker.

he new Liverpool boss met briefly with Torres before flying out to Switzerland to lead a pre-season training camp.

And today he has warned off potential suitors for the World Cup winner.

"I have met with Fernando. I found him to be a very pleasant man and we had a nice conversation," Hodgson told reporters in Bad Ragaz.

"As far as we are concerned he is a Liverpool player and we want him to remain a Liverpool player. He is not for sale and we don't welcome any offers for him.

"We want to keep him. My conversation with him was only short because I had to leave to come to the training camp in Switzerland. We spoke about football, the World Cup, his injury, and I told him how much I am looking forward to working with him.

"Christian Purslow was also at the meeting and chatted to Fernando for a lot longer after I left but my chat with him was only about football matters."

    Two things here.

    1) It doesn't say he doesn't want to leave it says he's not for sale

    2) If he is happy to say then what have they promised him?

No doubt Purlslow had to give him assurances about the ownership issue

Torres has got a fcukin cheek if you ask me,we finished ahead of Chelsea 14 months ago, they did'nt strenthen and finished 25 points ahead of us, that comes down to the manager and the players. The mancs lost 2 of the best players in the world last summer, did'nt seem to bother there players
. The new Manager is owed a season to prove last season was a blip. Chelsea are an aging team, they wont do much this summer, no team in the top 8 will bar that circus at eastlands. Torres can fcuk off with his whinging he's injured as much as he's fit, if I knew for sure the money would go into the squad I'd sell him.
Gerrard owes us nothing if he wanted to go to Madrid for a couple of years I would'nt begrudge him, Aqualani could play a similar role this season for us.
Mascherano is just a fcukin prick

Vent away but that's crap. We played way above our level that season. And then we went and sold Alonso who was our player of the season. The team we have on paper is nowhere near good enough. Blip my arse. And Torres did is loyalty stint already. He came to us to win trophies. I wouldnt begrudge him at all if he left...in fact outside of emotional reasons from his point of view it makes no sense to stay. If they want him not to look for a move then why shouldnt he ask when we are going to move forward?

The mancs lost the best player in the world and Tevez and dropped 5 points, we lost Alonso and dropped over 20. alonso may have been missed but he was'nt responsible for over 20 points.
Benitez set out at the start of the season with two holding midfielders as Alonso's replacement was'nt fit and when he was he would'nt play him, that comes down to Benitez, he's now gone his negativity and baffling decisions is now gone, theres a new manager and he deserves a chance.
Why do you think on paper were not strong enough, we currently have 4 world class players 3 that are arguably the best in the world in there position, we have 13 players that played at the world cup more than any team in the premier league.
How Many World class players have the mancs got 1 Rooney, how many players do they have at the world cup, how many had they involved in the final. The difference is they have a manager with a winning mentality we had Rafa I must not lose 1st.
Do you think the Mancs Arsenal or Chelsea will spend big this summer, I seriously doubt it especially with the 1st 2. Torres needs to get a grip here he's a player a player who got a 40% payrise last summer, he's under contract for 4 more years,if he does'nt like it hand in a transfer request and refuse to give the new manager a season, similar to an ex striker of ours, and if he does he shall be held in the same contempt by many a Liverpool fan

I think he's just trying to force the board into spending money to be honest.
I think he hates the yanks just as much as we do and he's challenging them

Nice thought, but I'd say it doesnt really bother him too much in reality.
He is a player who wants to be at the top table, and if we cant give it to him he'll be offski.

Not being smart here but did I miss something? What whinging?
I know people have been saying he should make a statement of commitment to the club but we all know... in football: words mean nothing.
How many times have we heard a player/manager/chairman say "I'm/he's staying" and a few days later the opposite happens.
Personally I think Torres will stay (at least till next transfer window) as he loves the club but he's not gonna stay on a sinking ship(why should he?)
