The people who are striking although the government are ****s, they are lucky to have a job get on with it and stop the moaning. With the economic climate around the world as it is these kind of disputes only underline what a greedy society Ireland has become.
agree that people should be gald to have jobs etc, however if it were some other countries in Europe, half the country would be on strike already. If the kind of cuts the Irish people have had to put up with happened in France or Germany, there would be riots through the streets and strikes all over the place.
True in some ways but they have the population for their economies ie more tax coming into their exchequer to recover we don't. In Waterford City alone out of 70,000 people there is 10,000 - 20,000 on the dole alone. Back to work schemes should be done to reduce the social welfare which is crippling the country. People are too stuck up to take a job that means hard work....
thats a fairly large difference in numbers mate, part of the problem in this country is that people are randomly pulling numbers/stats from nowhere and using them to make a point. In NOT saying there isnt an unemployment issue in Waterford, there is, the same as everywhere else. Also, I dont believe that "back to work" schemes are much use, after all you have to have a job to go to at the end of it, and that simply isnt the case ! the industry/positions just arent there !!
http://www.waterford-today.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=944&Itemid=10172&ed=72 "According to CSO figures, overall unemployment in Waterford is almost 50% higher than the national average." http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q...bYzoGb&sig=AHIEtbS2tkxOoxXlTR5QuVJJNoP7X4NADw Live Register above for Waterford is crazy...
meant to be heading over on 10th of april for fulham game and just realised today my youngfellas passport is out of date. Anyone know what the backlog is like cos i`m not sure if i`ve enough time to get it sorted. Does anyone in here know if i`m caught or what? I`ve until 9th of april to get it sorted.
Mate Get into the Passport office quick, with proof of travel in your hand ... they said something on the news this evening about those with close deadlines for travel would be getting some sort of preferential treatment.
Cousin of mine was up there at 6am this morning, got in at 930, couldnt find her sons application, has to go back up again on thursday, shes travelling next week
Taking things back on topic now ================================= This country has nothing but problems and ultimately, the Government needs to set examples, by helping to sort them out. Granted, the likes of the recession can take years of corrective measures, but having various civil servants striking is something they can correct and likewise, putting a stop to too many politicans taking "jollys" to various locations around St Patricks Day is something they could have stopped (dare I mention our Minister for Health, spending 14 days in New Zealand ... what a joke !) Ultimately, we need an election to change the Government, and then hold the new Government tightly to account, with regards to honouring what ever pre-election commitments they make. Once we can sort that lot out, the rest should start falling into place by virtue of a chain reaction ... even if sadly, some of it will take years. I'd love to know the clear and exact reasons the Firemen are proposing to strike, I'm not entirely clear from the article, it's too loose - anyone in the know ?
Currently its taking at least 20 days to process passports from the date of application. Thats the latest I heard m8.
If Fulham win tomorrow night you won't be going anywhere. As they will be playing in Wembley that weekend in the FA Cup.
Havent a clue myself, but would like to know.and as you say the article is vague, also no reasons on the news tonight,or the media in general. It might become clearer in the coming days. on a side note..... the strike is bad news for head shop owners
Agree with what you say above. The only problem is the alternative Government don't fill me with any sort of confidence. I'm sick of watching, Prime Time, The Frontline and the likes and all we hear from the opposition is stupid childish sniping and bickering. I want to hear these parties come straight out now and tell us what they would do differently. How they would help change things and why we shold trust them as they have a realistic viable plan for helping us get out of this slump. To date this hasn't happened as they're too busy jumping on the bandwagon and spending their time slagging off Fianna Fail which solves nothing!
