Right off the back of another defeat so would like to see us just get at Pompey and get the three points! Havent won on a monday in what 3 years?? Time to change that, would like to see: Reina Johnson Kyriagkos Carra Agger Macherano Aqualani Babel Gerrard Riera Torres Time to give Insua a break and throw Agger into left back and think Kuyt needs to be rested to so he can come back refrshed. Nothin against Lucas he has done well this season but time for Aqualani to get the chance and just think Macherano offers more. (Startin this instead of bobby....hope dont jinx it
I think it's even more than 3 years since we won a monday night game Phil-as far as I know we've never won on a monday under Rafa The knives will well and truly be sharpening for him unless we get all 3 points. I like the team you've selected there but I'm not even going to attempt writing out the team that I'd like because we all know Masch,Lucas,Gerrard,Kuyt and Insua are all 99% certain to start. We need fresh ideas.Kelly with Johnson right winger?Babel on the RIGHT?Aqua playing just behind Torres?Gerrard back in the middle or out on the left or right?Pacheco? ANYTHING.Just some fresh ideas to rejuvinate the team. Any bit of an improvement performance wise would be a bonus but the win is all that matters.
I heard a stat from somewhere yesterday we have never won a Monday night game under Rafa. Can anyone please disprove this, would love to prove the twat wrong that happily gave me the stat. Would love to see a change of system for this but very wishful thinking on my behalf. Would love to see a team silmilar to jesus torres team. A 4-3-3 with Masch Gerrrard and Aqua behind Babel Torres and Yossi/Dirk. But who am I kidding, I'm just playing too much fifa. Any win will do please.
Now I have not checked this out but I think the newspaper story on Monday about us winning not winning on a Monday night is actually wrong. It is possible that the last time we actually won on a Monday was a Boxing Day/St Stephens Day match. Liverpool beat Newcastle home on the 26th December 2005 2-0 and it was a 4pm KO. I will try and check this statistic properly tonight.
you are correct Lionel http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2005/dec/27/match.sport13 great memory sir Premier League Liverpool 2 * Gerrard 14, * Crouch 43 Newcastle United 0 * Dominic Fifield at Anfield * The Guardian, Tuesday 27 December 2005 * Article history
Spot on as always Lionel.I was going by this article that I came across yesterday but hadn't checked it out myself: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/new...snt-like-mondays/story-e6frg7mf-1225838565724 Having looked at lfchistory.net,we did beat newcastle on Monday 26/12/05.If could be argued it was an afternoon game and not a monday "night" game but thats another story! Was that the game where Crouchy had a shot go in off the post/givens back or something controversial for the dubious goals panel?Off the top of my head think it was crouchy and stevie got the goals but could be thinking of another game.
nearly sure we beat Portsmouth on a Monday night couple of years ago. 1 nil Gerrard peno. Think it was Adams first game in charge or something
This was on a Wed night I think 'cos I was at that one. So is the boxing day victory vs Newcastle the only win on a Monday and one could argue that was a daytime KO so we have still never won under Rafa on a Mon night
I suggested the same game when this question was raised a few months back and it turned out that pompey game was a tues/wed i think.
Correct. I have done a bit more checking since and this was indeed the last Monday KO that Liverpool won. But it was a lunchtime KO so not really the answer to the question of when Liverpool last won on a Monday night. Prior to that was the Newcastle game I already mentioned on the 26th December 2005. Then you have to go all the way back to the 21/04/2003 when Liverpool beat Charlton 1-0. This game was played on Easter Monday 2003 when there were eight premiership fixtures that day. I can not find the time of the KO so don't know if this is the definitive answer to the last time that Liverpool won on a Monday night. Somebody must be able to come up with the right answer. Monday night TV coverage for Liverpool got off to a bad start with the first ever live Monday night game on Sky Sports in August 1992 when Liverpool were beaten by Nottingham Forest away 1-0. I have too much time on my hands!
Sorry for going off topic. Anyone know what time the Easter Monday game on the 16th April 2001 kicked off at? I know it was an evening game. This was the famous last kick of the game by Gary Mac win over Everton 3-2.
Just found this one the auld tinternet http://www.breakingnews.ie/archives...ip-everton-v-liverpool-live-scores-10054.html Based on the time of the score update this game started no later than 5pm.
My bad people. As Bob said, "tell me why I don't like Mondays?" COS WE ALWAYS FCKUING LOSE BOB, THATS WHY!
