The French TV station, TF1, are playing hard ball with the FAI/RTE after they sold the rights to Saturday's match in Croker to the rival French TV station, M6, for €4.4m.

This really p*ssed off the French Football Association, as they have an arrangement with TF1and expected the FAI to sell the rights to their favourite TV station.

No need to worry, a deal will be done

Roll on Paris, here we come - need to get some training in on Saturday!

Could be a replay of 1997 all over again when the 2nd leg against Turkey wasn't aired either so a precedence has been set already that RTE will play hardball and won't pay over the odds. If we win 2-0 on Saturday night the FFF should come back and demand €3m :)

Of course, RTE could just tell Pat Kenny to fcuk off for 2 years and that would free up the cash to pay up now

was listing to some tv3 lad who buys the sports tv rights and he was saying that it could happen whereby sky will be the only channel to get the rights but under legislation that came in a few years back sky cant show the game unless its been shown free to all in the domestic market

interesting what he was saying, he said that some french company bought the rights for €5m but that they where selling tv adds to a population of 60m+ while in ireland there are only 4m of us yet they are looking for €1.5m

biggest problem he was saying was that if a deal is sorted say on monday it only gives them 48hours to sort advertising deals while normally the sell it 6 weeks in advance

A deal would want to be done by tomorrow otherwise RTE and the rest will argue that there is no point as its too late to sell off advertising slots. The FFF were seriously fcuked off at the FAI selling off the rights to the game last night to a pay tv company rather than their preferred channel TV1. Playing hard ball now because of it. If no deal is done the Woolshed will be swarmed by 4pm on Wednesday :D

    This is mad ...

When I see some of the crap RTE waiste money on (*cough*PAT-KENNY-€600kpa*cough*) I just cannot accept that they won't write a cheque for something as important as this.

...Just let RTE, TV3 and Sly Sports all chip in to buy the rights between them, then they can all broadcast it ..... there's gonna be plenty of interest in this game, so they'd all get decent viewing figures, but could share the costs etc.

Well we dont need to wonder any more, obviously going in the likes of Pat Kennys pocket. Surely common sense will prevail in the end on this,

Its not going to be easy, we find it hard to score goals at the best of time. I just hope the players keep their confidence up and really go for it.

Trap said in metro this morning that we only need 1 goal and that he will be cautious not to concede as this would 'finish the game'

Can see this being very tight game but we cant give them as much space as we did second half on Saturday. We need improvement on set pieces also.

We do only need 1 goal to force extra time, but on Saturday I couldnt really see many oppurtunities that we had, bar Doyle and his blaze wide and few half chances

Lawerence should have buried that chance in the first half and Whelan should have buried the one in the second (Great save by the keeper). O Shea also had an excelletn chance. Think they were all better than half chances.

I expect Trapp to be cautious, I would not even be suprised to see the same team line out. We know we lack quality on the ball in central midfield, but who will replace them out of the current squad.

Only change I can see is McGeady in for Lawerence or if there are injuries.
