have any of you folks seen it, I have a group of young teenagers over from chernobyl for the next 3 weeks again and trying to sort some entertainment for them, while some of there english is not so good, do you think its worth a visit. or if anyone has any suggestions what to do with a group of chernobyl kids from 7-17 as cheep as possible, or freebies, I would be happy to hear from you. thankfully fund raising is not a issue this year, as we had a few large donations into the funds, but that will pay for more kids to visit next year for a health holiday.
Fair play Pam, Have you thought about the new ice rink at Charlstown? Maybe if they know who you are caring for they will look after you.
There's the mulitlingual tour bus. €6 for kids up to 14 which is ok but €15 for adults. I don't exactly know what language it is that they speak its in 10 languages so maybe they'll be able to understand. http://www.dublinsightseeing.ie/cityTour.aspx Of course the National Gallery in Merrion Square is free and maybe its just me but i find that place interesting. Some famous art in there some of them might recognise like Picasso, Monet, Caravaggio, Rembrandt etc thats always good to kill a few hours although mighn't be exactly where all 7-17 year old would want to be.
How about Guinnes Store House Pam? May be able to get Tickets for it?? Although not sure how appropriate it would be for them depends how old!
we can split the groups, but ages ranging youngest 7 to 17, any free tickets welcomed never been to guinness myself so havnt got a clue what thats like
The Natural History Museum (used to be??) is free. Always used to love that when I was a young lad. My brother gives tours of Trinity, so I can see whats the best he could do(Im sure he'd give an unofficial one to the group for free if I asked). Not sure how interesting it would be for the children, but let me know if I can help. Oh, and Trim Castle
we have 2 adult translators with the group of 36 in our group, ask your brother if thinks its suitable for kids
Will ring him at lunch Pam. Iv done the Tour myself, and its just about the history of Trinity, but my brother makes it light hearted and he gets groups of Spanish/French/German etc children/teenagers all the time. Ill get back to you this afternoon. The Book of Kells is in the Library, but I think you normally have to pay extra for that and he doesnt go into the library. Leave it with me.
Walk through tour, history of guinness etc, and free pint/soft drink at end in the gravity bar where you can look out over Dublin city pretty impressive to be honest! I'll ask the question and see what i can do, how many would you require tickets for?
get whatever you can Mark theres 36 in the group but we have the host familys as well, but this time beggers can be choosers we will take whatever we can split the groups if we have too, normally a trip would consist of about 50/60 ideally one bus load as some of teens are old enough to go out supervised with olders teens these groups could be smaller
Im looking for tickets for the Guinness Tent at the Galway Races if you can help Mark! Any day will do! Im down for the week
Went to see the Bodies exhibition couple of years back in London. It was very good, if a bit creepy. The bottles containing baby foetuses was particularly creepy.
Used to always reccomend kilmainham gaol to tourists when I worked in hotels more than the guiness store house. Its much cheaper and personally much more interesting, €6 adults and €2 for kids. Its an hour long tour and of course you've got the pheonix park close by which of course is free.
Here's an idea Pam alway's look as though there having fun http://www.vikingsplash.ie/ little bit pricey though!
thanks to mark, kids going to guinness, for the tour, thanks for other suggestions also, also thanks to arklowred for the t shirts for the kids, lets hope the weather will improve for the rest of the kids holiday
