www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...er-fallen-Newcastle-star-England-striker.html the brochure sent around afew weeks back, funny stuff
I hate the greedy little sod. the only good thing about him, are his 2 goals he scored against arsenal in the cup final. he seems to be more interested in his race horses these days than his football career. He is finished anyway, hitting 30 and lost his turn of foot.. Good riddance michael
was he not making noises about leaving, from the age of about 21? saying he wanted to win stuff.. what did we win when he went to madrid and pool fans didn't take to him the way we did fowler and rushie
Doesnt make him a bad player, he was quality for us. he wanted to move on so he did what he had to do. i dont agree with it but he was looking out for number one, same as everyone else does. i wouldnt be upset if he came back to us, when fit he scores goals, he loves playing for england so much that id wager he would be very hungry to try get in the world cup squad. he will do well next season and i wouldnt be surprised if he did go the south africa with the england squad
Was as peed off with him as anyone when he left but you can't forget he did carry us for a few seasons. Don't agree at all that the only thing he did for us was the 2001 FA Cup Final.
i cant c why people are always havin a go at him - i was a pissed as anyone when he left in rafas first year but in faurness he pretty much carried us for 2 or 3 years before that in terms of goalscoring, what with fowler gone and heskey's inability to hit the barn door witha banjo. he was hungry for success just like any top player and we'd just finished 35pts or so off the top and were points-wise closer to the relegation zone. so leaving mite be viewed as disloyalty by some but it was what he felt he had to do to win stuff as madrid were a top side and in the Cl etc. he was actually excellent out there when they played him and his goals to game ratio was superb. he was abused and mistreated by houliier who threw him back into the first team the minute he was off crutches - if his injuries had been better managed back then he'd never have been so injury-prone. i dunno is he right for us but on a free transfer he could be a bargain for the toffees or villa - if he plays 30 league games next year i'd bet you he'd hit 15-127 goals still
It says in that that in the last 2 seasons he has played 75% of the barcodes league games which is the same as Torres, Shrek and more than Drogba or Van Persie. Surely that cant be right
Michael Owen has played for 3 of the greatest teams in the world. Since when was Newcastle rated the best team in the world?
In 2001 Michael Owen was European Footballer of The Year and Hull were playing in the 4th tier of english football.......wonder what odds you'd have got back then that they'd be in talks for Owen while he was still in his 20's!
Interesting, decided to have a look.... League 2008/2009 Started 21/Sub 7. League 2007/2008 Started 24/Sub 5. So he started less than 60% of games, and including sub appearances played exactly 75% of games (including the sub appearances is a bit rich!). Aren't statistics great
They are when he uses only games he started for his goal to game ratio, I wonder did they take out the goals he got as a sub?
It appears they used his total appearances and total goals. So for 2008/2009 they have 32 appearances (which includes 8 sub appearances) and 10 goals overall.
Interesting stats, I didn't realise he had played as much as that during the last two seasons! Still I think his best days are behind him, and unlike when Fowler returned, he wouldn't have the same impact on or off the pitch - I can't see Owen being so passionate about the club like God. He was a great goal scorer for us but the way he left will always leave a sour taste. If he joins Hull, and with the dreaded 2nd season syndrome, will he be relegated twice in 12 months?
