Careful what you wish for.....he's an attacking fullback, will be caught out of position plenty. Unless we fix how defense slides across and someone from midfield tracks back, its gonna be an issue. Now what full back does that remind you of that people been lambasting last year or two hmmmm.....
Bale? Shaw? Seriously though, does every thread now have to descend in to that? You can be an attacking FB and still be a great player. There are defensive frailties in our side, no doubt about it, but at this point I think it's tactics/style of play that is causing problems. If Moreno can produce the form he showed in the first 35 minutes on a regular basis, he is going to be an exciting player to watch.
That's exactly what I said when said about sliding across and/or midfielders doing a better job tracking back? If you play attacking fullbacks and don't account for them in style/tactics then they will be "at fault" a lot for the fans.
You were referring to Johnson I would guess? If so then you've grossly miscalculated why people don't rate him. I've summarised below. From my reading of the Johnson thread it's a combination of (A) Poor body language - unforgivable in the eyes of many (B) Laziness - this is something that I've seen from him in many games and (C) Inability to defend - Nothing to do with him being caught out up the field, just a lack of basic abilities defensively and seems to more often than not get caught out of position when he's not in attack mode. Actually let me add a further one in that he is now also just not good going forward either, he gets a lot of touches around the middle but he doesn't really cause too much trouble in the final third (that may be just my own observation)
There's enough of this in the Johnson thread already nevermind bringing it into another player's thread
Yup, I agree with it. I wasn't taking issue with that at all. The system has to work for attacking FB's to be most effective. Moreno (after his debut game) already looks like he is a great attacking FB.
Yup, delighted that he doesn't seem to have let his error against City affect him. That was the best response you could ask for from a player, a textbook FB performance capped with a superb goal.
He has some Pace on him. In the first half he was flying forward especially on the counter attack. His goal was lovely. Very enjoyable watch.
may already have been said but did that Moreno goal remind any one else of the days John Arne Riise was bombing up the wing
Yup, you've hit the nail on the head mate. Just don't go mentioning Riise around here too much, I've accidently upset Trucker more than once by saying good things about Riise
Very like the goal the butcher boy got against the blue shites and did he not start off wearing number 18 too!
Sturridge posted a dressing room pic on his fbook page of the team and Morenos ankle was heavily iced so obviously still not 100% not bad for a lad carrying an injury
If he stays injure free Enrique's days are numbered. One thing that impressed me yesterday is he's speed very quick and never stops running from first minute, already clear why we spent so long persueing him imagine if we'd ended up with Berthard instead.
