Decent article on footballers ruined by money, includes a few of our old players. https://beanbagsports.com/blog/2015/07/25/17-footballers-ruined-by-money/
I dunno if it's all about money, surely alot of its about ambition, Nearly all over them players in the list moved to a better club. When I think off footballers moving for money. Its the legends of the games the same to be doing it. Take this summer for example Xabi away to the Qatar to play for Al Sadd SC (Yeah who?) Our Stevie away to the USA to play. Pirlo also away to the USA to play Frank Lampard to the USA
Pirlo is only getting 2million a year. Less than contracts he was offered elsewhere. Stevie & Lampard are both on smaller contracts than they were at previous clubs also. Xavi is on more though. But I get your point and agree that most of the big names are defo taking moves for money, you've just used some really bad examples
Yeah I wasn't sure off the wages. I just think the above players could still cut it at the highest level even at their ages. To go and play in the Qatar and the US leagues is just ridiculous in my opinion . Better examples of in the prime footballers would be Samba, Eto, Willian and all the hungry rich footballers who moved to Anzhi, Hulk moving to Russia too for money.
The article actually says footballers whose careers were ruined by money. First on the list is Bony who has spent one season at Manchester City, albeit an unsuccesful one but you cannot write off a guys entire career based on that. Scott Parker, Andy Carroll, Steve Sidwell, Willifred Zaha, Alan Smith, SWP, Adam Johhnson, Stewart Downing, Joe Allen, Adam Lallana and Demba Ba are all footballers that probably got picked up by top clubs who are above their actual abilities but all of them have gone on to find (or will go on to find) other clubs in top tier football and have successful careers. I really can't agree that any of them ruined their careers by moving for money and many have probably secured their financial lives by making these moves.
