I bought one of these off littlewoods for 50 euro and have to day it is a great piece of equipment.

I have mobdro and kodi on it and the streaming quality is top notch. I had a chromecast which was great for streaming but the ability to sideload apps onto the fire stick made it the winner for me.

As far as I know you can. I don't use netflix myself, I use the kodi player to stream everything it has pretty much everything on it to watch. Well worth the money

Bought one today. Someone far more technically advanced than me is side loading kodi and kitting it out for me.

    Guys,

Whats the story with these if your in RoI (in my case, Dublin) ?

I just had a very quick look on Amazon's UK website and it's implying that you need to be UK resident....

Is there an Irish version ?

How good does your internet connection need to be (i.e. min. speed) for reliable service ?

    Whats mobdro and kodi ?

Is this a "legal" alternative to the Dreambox, or am I right in thinking that Dreambox gives you actual TV channels, whereas Firestick gives you the various online players or web based broadcasters (i.e. Neteller) ?

    Thanks.

Kodi is the new name for the xmbc. It's basically a media player. Check out the xmbc thread.

I got my fire stick sent to a mate in Liverpool. He is going to kit it out for me.

Perhaps one of the lads can explain it better than I could?

It all depends what you are looking for. If it is good quality live tv then the dreambox is the way to go. If like me you just watch movies, tv shows and the odd match then the fire stick is perfect.

Mobdro is an app with all the sports and general tv channels on. Quality wouldn't be brilliant but is watchable. Kodi used to be known as xbmc which is a media player which allows you to install add ons.

It works in ireland as I have been using it for a couple of weeks with no bother. In terms if broadband quality I have fibre broadband and it works perfect.

Amazon fire stick is £19 today only if you have or know anyone with Amazon prime.

You can just sign up for the trial of Amazon Prime and still get the deal.

Just cancel before the 1 month trial is up and there's no charge :)

You need to sideload Kodi onto it and then add the likes of Genesis, Icefilms etc for your TV & Films. Someone did mine for me but there is good tutorials online. I think someone posted links in the XMBC thread.

I bought a deadly app on the play store last night called agk fire and was able to send apps across from my phone straight to the stick, dead handy.
    Kodi is installed.:)

Installed fusion/hub wizard and sportsmania on it last night and it's working flawlessly. Not going to over complicate things by putting any more addons on it, happy with that.

My films seem to buffer a lot when using Genesis. Anyone experience this? Is there anything I can do?

Think there's a new version of genesis you can install.

    Hi,

Never got around to doing anything more about this, was thinking of getting one for the TV in the kitchen (to keep the Mrs. sweet...), any idea what the minimum broadband speed needed for decent signal is please ?

Also, can I get some of the usual tv channels - BBC, RTE etc ? ... I've seen mention of BBC Player, but then suggestion that it won't work in Ireland, no mention of RTE, TV3 etc.

    Thanks guys.

Don't know about minimum broadband speed but you won't get any Irish channels on it unless you install Kodi on it and use an add-on that has the Irish channels on it.
BBC iPlayer and the likes won't work unless you use a vpn.
I can honestly say that of all the gadgets I've bought over the last few years this is defo the best, I watched the Liverpool game on it yesterday and it was flawless.
£25 on amazon at the mo, absolute steal.

Lads I'm so far behind in all of this new technology but would people recommend getting one of these over something like the Google chromecast or are they basically the same thing. I'm really looking for something that I can use for watching things like Netflix but would be handy for the odd game or two that needs to be streamed if that's possible too.
