That sounds simplistic about Benitez you can't forget that Masch, Torres (not as much as the others), Alonso, Arbeloa, Reina, Agger and probably quite a few more have moved on for reasons outside of their footballing ability and if available for us now would walk straight back into the squad.......that might still include Torres. They're all still turning out regularly for top quality teams around Europe so it's a bit misleading. I thought Rafa had a pretty good strike rate to be honest.
Ed I think you have completely misunderstood my post, my point was in 4 years we have completely overhauled the squad (only Skrtel, Johnson, Gerrard and Lucas aren't new) yet its almost common consenus Comolli was a disaster, Kenny blew 100m, Rodgers can't identify players and the committee are wasters, something somewhere is going right because we came 2nd last season and are well positioned to be top 4 this year.
My apologies, I did indeed completely miss your point. Yeah I think we tend analyse what's happening in real time too much, a bit of context like a couple of years is what is really needed to see the actual results of a "transfer policy". I'm happy to give any signing at least 12 months but I am a very patient person and didn't have high expectations this season anyway, for someone who thought we could win the league this season it's been a horrific come down in a very short period of time and must be incredibly frustrating and I can understand the need to point the finger at someone.
Kenny blew £100m? We got £90m back on Carroll and Suarez, we have one of the best CM in the league who's worth twice what we paid for him, we also got money back on downing(created most chances in league this season, just saying), money back on Adam, who else was there Enrique and Coates? For what it's worth I don't give Kenny the credit for Suarez or criticism on Carroll, I think both were Commoli and we made a £30m profit on those deals, those are the facts. Now ask ourselves bar sturridge and maybe Coutinho would we get our money back on Rodgers big money signings, Southampton overpaid for lovren at £8m, Chelsea coulda had Markovic for £12m and said no, balotelli enough said. We might make a couple of million on Assidi but will cost us more to pay off, Borini won't move even for less than we paid. Kenny and Commoli blew £100m, I think that myth has been well put to bed.
If I've totally missed the point in that post Bob I apologise, just winds me up people think that about Kennys time
9 games in I wouldn't be getting me knickers in a twist just yet. How much top talent goes unfound in far flung leagues? Are they only properly scouted players if we haven't heard of them? Sent from my U8815 using Tapatalk 2
The difference between Commoli and Kenny's successful signings and the current lot is they had time to prove there worth and appreciate in value. Were 9 games in and there being wrote off. If we applied the same logic on this summers signings to Kenny's were would Henderson be now??
I only asked you how do you think they've done up until now? 9 games in is a fair few games my good man. I think you're just picking holes in things I'm saying regarding scouting players we haven't heard of. One's we don't see on Match of the day might be a good start. Of all the players we've signed so far Rodgers and his team could have just found themselves.
Still playing on the right wing and looking like he couldn't play football. Anytime he started in his correct position I thought he looked good. But what you're saying is completely right, the signings over the summer need a chance to find their feet before they're wrote off. T
Balotelli - Abysmal, really must improve dramatically to warrant a spot in the team but dropping him compounds his issues, games the only realistic way for him to find form Markovic - Not seen anything special but needs a year at least to find his feet Lovren - Abysmal thus far - probably deserves a chance to find his feet after the move but it's a difficult luxury for a centre half Lallana - Looks a decent player - overpaid but he's English so to be expected Moreno - Looks a good acquisition Manquillo - Also looks a good acquisition Lambert - As expected really, hasn't had many opportunities but he's a limited player but cost very little and knows his role ( though I'm not really sure what it is myself)
Fallows and Hunter are his team. I'm not picking holes mate but what makes you think the transfer committee should only find players we haven't heard of or haven't seen on match of the day? This summers signings I've been impressed with Moreno,Manquillo, lallana and Can. Markovich have seen very little of. Lambert an option from the bench so not bothered either way. Lovren has been a disaster so far. Balotelli has been frustrating but I'm eager to see what Brendan can get from him.
Henderson was a kid joining us and barely got a game in his correct position in his 1st season at the club, lovren has been shit wherever he's been, as long as there's air in the atmosphere he'll never be worth half what we paid for him. Balotelli has been ran out of every club he's been at, it's no coincidence he's been awful since he arrived that's him. The rest the jury is out and as I've said before Can and Origi really excite me, but if we're to use Rodgers previous dealings as a guide it doesn't play a good tune does it? The problem is Rodgers left the 1st team up the shits this summer, not only did he not replace Suarez he didn't get in proper back up for sturridge, and it effects the rest of the players as we're having to slow our game down to accommodate our slow forwards, now wether or not Markovic becomes the new Messi in 2 years is irrelevant, the fact is the manager fcuked up this window by not having players ready now for the 1st team, and the ones he bought were really below standard for a team with regular title chasing ambitions.
This 9 games in thing is a bit false do we only judge players on premier league games? On this summers transfer dealings I have to agree with Trucker Can & Origi are the 2 that excite me. We will make money on both of them. Markovic should get a pass on age once he shows the potential (which hasn't happened) but he is only getting drip feed game time. 20mil price tag for a young lad is a lot to live up too but we did over pay. Lallana I think will do his job as consistently as he did at Southampton but again over paid & left ourselves no room to make any profit purely because of his age. He'll either be at the club until he finishes his career or leave for a fraction of the price we paid for him. Loveren, Balotelli can't see it neither will fetch the price we paid for them barring a complete turnaround but even at that we tend to sell low buy high. Sorry forgot Moreno & Manquillo on Manquillo loan move & he actually looks like a good loan for a change. Moreno I think We can make our money back easy & will only be getting better
Time will tell if your right about Lovren and Balotelli. I'm not saying your wrong but can't see why you feel the need to call it so early. On Rodgers/commitee it looks like they put all there eggs in the Sanchez and Remy baskets and left themselves with little or no option but to sign Mario. That's the worrying thing for me how do you go from Sanchez to Balotelli there polar opposites. Shows a lack of planning imo which is worrying as that's what there meant to be doing.
Hi mate, I shouldn't have said that you were just picking holes in my argument about the scouts not delivering unknown players. I do think Brendan could have signed those players without their help but you were offering a valid argument and I do apologise
Just a bit of craic based on the irony of who scored tonight given recent discussions. Nothing to serious mate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
