First of all I, like everyone here and beyond, appreciates the job JC has done for our club ever since coming into the team back in '96. He's a legend to many including me... However, the last couple of years have seen him make more errors than ever, unintentionally injure both himself and other teammates in going for a ball, and play poorly for the most part. I've heard stories of Carra being an intelligent footballer that will more than likely go into management after his playing career has finished, but looking at his "tactical nous" on the pitch, I don't think he's gonna be a success having seen him hoof the ball up the pitch umpteen times a game. If thats his strategy, he's doomed in management before it starts! However, this is beside the point I want to make... I might be slaughtered for this from some, but I think the majority feel the same about him as I do right now - that he has become detrimental to our team. His "hoofing" of the ball is one thing, but the tirades he goes on during games are ridiculous. I remember Torres getting an earful when he let a simple pass go past him earlier this year, and also the dogs abuse that Arbeloa suffered a season or two back. When I say that he is detrimental to the team, I point to how our full backs and other cb's are so ineffective in a game other than in a defensive capability. Carra is a big reason why we had a very solid defence in the past, but he's now becoming the reason why we are leaking more goals than ever, amongst others. His lack of pace, his distrust in his colleagues in the defensive line, and his absolute hatred of seeing players from the backline venture forward are taking their toll on the team. Say what you want about the manager, or his predecessors if you will, but I think JC has way too much influence in the team when they are on the pitch. Contrast this to the role Steven Gerrard has, who lets his football do the talking and if needs require, has a quiet word with players if he spots something wrong on the pitch. Whether your at a game or watching it on TV, there will be moments above the crowds chants and singing that you will hear Carra barking at teammates. This in itself is not a bad thing as you would want someone assuming responsibility in this area, but for the reasons I've outlined above it is a bad thing. I think his time is up, personally. Time for the new generation to come in and try and do a job that Carra did in his pomp because it aint working anymore. I would like to see him spend more time on the bench, and if he didn't like that, than let him go. Might be harsh, but Carra fits the player profile that NESV have stated they do NOT want at the club or are likely to bring in.
i couldnt agree more, particularly the highlighted part, however, id also throw Gerrard into that bracket as well, their influence pretty much has us in the mess we're in right now, if they werent so obsessed with getting their english manager, we wouldnt be playing so "english" at the moment his distribution is utterly shocking, even Jack Charlton would ask him to cut down on the long balls, i dont know how many times he just hoofed the ball up the field, utterly aimless and what sickens me, is then some muppet fans, or incompetent commentator will bemoan the fact that Torres "isnt trying for that", what a load of bollocks, roy of the ****ing rovers couldnt control any of the balls that Carra launches up to torres., he's only short of screaming, "Heuston, we have lift off" everytime he "pings" a ball up front to the "lazy" torres a new manager needs to come in and put him in his place, and im afraid thats the bench!
Brilliant performance against Chelsea last week and was solid enough against Wigan. Did ok today defensively but him at right back limits the team dramatically going forward. According to some, him and Stevie pick the team though these days though, so its probably his fault he is at right back. When he gave Arbeloa a rollicking in a meaningless game a few seasons ago, everyone talked about his passion, now he tries to give someone an earful and he is the devil
I agree his performance against the chavs was very good (along with the other 10 men behind the ball in the 2nd half), but if he is not being considered for a cb berth regularly than he isn't considered good enough. And its not like he is yong or has "potential". @ rb he is a nightmare.... to our own team.
One thing we all know is that Carra will always give 100 % and he hates not playing so he will give his all in training if he thinks his place is at stick, that can only be a good thing, but he is not a rb as you said his passing is shockingly bad, hes a proper out and out centre back
Other than his organisational skills, his best asset for years has been his ruthlessness. Now his ruthlessness (bringing politics and stance within the dressing room into things in order to get a new contract and keep his place) is crippling the club he loves and I don't think he can see it. Liverpool legend but should be used more on the trainng ground than in the starting XI these days.
Players cannot be held to blame, i've no doube carra gives more than 100% every week. If some weeks he cant prdouce the same level as he dd in 2005 and its a consistent drop its not up to him to step aside thats the managers job nor carrra. If carras asked to play 365 games a year for LFC he will
That's why we need a strong manager who's not afraid to rock the boat.I really admired how Pelligrini handled Raul and Guti's influence in the Real changing room.Instead we got landed someone who will give Carra a new contract and play him every week when he's clearly not up to it anymore,a manager who will play Gerrard in his 'best position' to massage his ego and lure Cole to the club by promising him a central role. Carragher fought tooth and nail to get his new deal and secure his future at the club.On one hand,I kind of admire him because it shows how desperate he is to keep playing for the club.On the other hand,I fcuking despise the way he went about it-using politics to remove the man who gave him a new position and turned him in to a European Cup winner...all for his own benefit. Not totally Carraghers fault he's picked every week.We need a manager who will come in and give the big names a kick up the hole.If you don't want to stay and fight for your placeo one.If you do-nice one:just don't go mouthing off to your mate in NOTW and conspire againt me if things aren't working out for you.
IMO we dont have a stong manager, BUT I woulnt blame him on Carras contract. I think Carra is a vital part of the the clubs set up but I think his time in the first team is coming to a more reduced role however the strenght in debt is so weak we cant afford to leave him on the bencg when its seen better to. Carra's organization experience on the pitch is invaluuable, even half fit he's as good as half the center halfs out there
He still has a very important role to play within the club-just not on the pitch week in,week out. Nobody is disputing that his organisational skills are fantastic but that doesn't compensate for his lack of pace, his lack of aerial ability and his incessant hoofs which hampers our build up play so much. He won't be around forever. If ever there was a time to faze him out,it's now-while expectations are at an all time low and a new CB pairing can use the time to gel together without as much pressure. I don't like slagging the guy-I had my fair share of Carra 23 shirts when I was younger and he's a Liverpool legend but his time is nearly up and I don't think I'm being unfair in saying that.
Problem at the moment we dont have anyone to take over. Soto has done well, but lacks pace and in big games he will get caught out. When Srktel came I thought he could be the new Vidic, today he could have given away two penalties. He is almost as unhandy on the ball as Carragher. Agger is always injured and is a liability, should be sold to anyone foolish enough to buy him. For me Carragher is hands down the most reliable experiened CB at the club. Kelly looks more a centre half than a full back so long term we should look to get Kelly in there with a new partner. Maybe Ayala or Wilson are up to it, personally I think Gary Cahill would be an ideal partner for Kelly or Skrtel for next season. Bolton are looking big money although he fits NESV profile for players.
CB with pace who can actually head a football would be a priority of mine.I have a lot of faith in Kelly,Ayala and Wilson in the long run but not quite yet. Settling for Carragher becuase he's seen as the best we've got at the moment is the wrong mentality imo.We need to do something about it-be ruthless and ambitious if we're going to achieve anything.
