This day 12 years ago we beat Alaves in the UEFA Cup. I set off from Dublin airport on the Tuesday night and made it back into Dublin on the fast boat from the pier head at lunchtime on the Thursday. A great trip.
I was playing a cup final that night so missed most of the 90 minutes. Surreal trying to play a match when cheers can be heard left right and center and you have no idea what's going on. Still never seen that match in full.
Ged Rea confirmed to me last night via. Twitter that the last abandoned match at Anfield was the 1st leg of the UEFA cup in 1973 (water logged pitch) and the only other match that had to be abandoned since was the FA Cup tie against Bristol City at Ashton Gate in 1994 (floodlight failure).

8 Years ago today, Well seeing we went on and on about Istanbul yesterday, might as well mention the biggest and longest home coming ever. I got back abar 1.30pm and straight into town after dropping my lad off at home, did I **** know what time I would be coming home the time it took the team to get into town. Great 48 hours and not forgetting what we did on the Bank Holiday Monday at the Pumphouse at the Albert Dock, Only LFC can give you stuff like this, the rest of the Country just dream and try to do it and fail.
32 years ago today ... Bob's third European Cup .... that '81 side was one of the finest LFC teams ever assembled....

The whole month was bananas - RTE was showing the reaction and there is a famous shot of a lets say large guy sitting bawling his eyes out after the pennos .. Describing the hysteria in a interview a few weeks back Eamon Dunphy said how mental the country went and mentioned your man, he's a politician/Councillor from down the country that Dunphy knew- "He wouldn't know a football from a lemon" he said
What happened in Giants Stadium 4 years later didn't even come close to emulating events of that day.A wonderful time to follow the Boys in Green.
