Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Konchesky Raul Poulson Maxi Gerrard Cole Torres I'd be happy enough with that starting line up.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=820937&sec=england&cc=5901 Roy Hodgson has confessed that there is a lot of uncertainty around Liverpool and the club urgently need a new owner to invest in the team before they can challenge for major honours again. Roy Hodgson admits uncertainty surrounds the club. Liverpool have so far been unable to find anyone with the credibility to take the club and the team forward, but Hodgson has finally spoken out about the problems of Anfield returning to the glory days. "The stature, traditions and abilities of Liverpool to attract players certainly make it an achievable task, even though we are in strange times at the moment; the club is up for sale and nobody knows what direction it will take if and when new owners are found,'' he told Manager, the official magazine of the League Managers' Association. Asked if he can attain trophies with the club again, he said: "It's not quite as easy to answer that question as it would have been a few years ago when the situation was far more stable and the money to buy news players was available. "We hope the situation will change when the club is eventually sold and owners who are prepared to invest in the club come in. When that situation arises I'm pretty sure it won't be difficult for us to start achieving things again, but at the moment the task is really to hang on to the players we've got and make certain we don't have a situation where we have got a total rebuild process." However, Hodgson refuses to concede the title, despite the problems he faces. "I don't think there's any such thing as false optimism,'' he said. ''There is pragmatism and you should never try to dampen people's enthusiasm and optimism. "Furthermore, every season you see teams not expected to win titles winning them; it doesn't always go to the favourite in any country. So you should never play down the Liverpool fans incredible desire and passion to keep on winning trophies - and the Premier League in particular - and keep their noses in front of Manchester United."
Testimonials are what they are and you will find many would agree with me too. Anfield holds over 34,00 btw
He's probably only counting the people who went to the testimonial. Welcome to the site. That was a long post with a lot of thoughts on different aspects of the club. I would generally agree with most of what you say but there's about 5 threads worth of material there to be discussing in one thread.
right my fault this thread is going a little off topic so lets get it back on track ps CARRA IS A LEGEND
Still no leaders in that back four without Carra, He starts all the time for me even though his pace is gone we need him to boss that line, can't see Agger (too quite) Skrtel (too quite) Soto bossing that line yet.
I presume your the same guy as here ? http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=257322.msg6871003#msg6871003
Hodgson:"We were unbelievably overstaffed" Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is pleased with the additions he has made to his squad during this summer's transfer window. The arrivals of Christian Poulsen, Raul Meireles and Paul Konchesky will supply quality in key positions, especially following the departure of Javier Mascherano. "It was important to sign a quality midfielder when we lost Javier," Hodgson told his club's official website. "We had half prepared for his departure by jumping in to sign Christian Poulsen when he became available, but it was important for us to keep strong in that area. "We loaned out Alberto Aquilani and so we are pleased to have been able to bring in Meireles. He is experienced in the Champions League, in international football and has had proven success at Porto. He is an all-round midfielder who is capable of playing in all three of the central midfield positions. "He has a pedigree which we researched, followed and studied. I followed him at my previous club so it was good when I heard he could be available and that we could do the business quickly. "He has played a lot of international football so settling into the English game won't be a major problem. Our public are sensible people and they realise that having played all of his career in Portugal, it may take a bit of time. We have that time. "He will adjust, but whether it's from the first moment we'll have to wait and see." Hodgson is also pleased that Konchesky can go straight into his squad with little need for adjustment, having arrived from Fulham. "It was difficult because Fulham were anxious to keep him and were against letting him go," the Reds boss added. "Our good fortune was he was in the last year of his contract and he made it clear that if they didn't let him go he wouldn't sign a new contract. That was useful for us because otherwise it would have been very difficult to get him. "There aren't many quality left-backs around in the world, never mind in England - so to find an English one who can go straight into the team without any adjustment problems is a big advantage. "He is a player I know, a player I have worked with and he knows the way we try to play and the things we try to do. That's another little advantage, but the main reason for bringing him here is because we think he's a good player and he's the right man for the job." Hodgson is very satisfied overall with his club's dealings during the summer transfer window. "We should be very happy," he said. "A lot of hard work has gone in and you have to mention Christian Purslow and Eduardo Macia, who both worked really hard during the transfer window to do the deals I wanted to happen but also to do deals for quite a few players to leave the club. "We were unbelievably overstaffed when I came to the club and, if the truth be known, we still are overstaffed. It was just as big a job making sure some of the players who never feature for the first team move on and that we limit our squad to players who are either in the frame to play first-team football or who have a bright future who are still anxious to play academy and reserve team football. "We don't want that middle group who are too old for reserve football but are not serving any purpose for the first team because they never feature." Imo we were always overstaffed but understaffed in quality and a unbalanced squad .. Id gladly have 23 players {3 keepers} with 2 quality player's in every position than a squad of 30-40 filled with average player's who will never even make the match day 18. We have 5 strikers in Torres Babel N'gog Kuyt Jovanovic but the quality to re[place Torres isn't there yet on the left wing we don't have 1 proper winger imo ...... every winger we have is better from the right than the left. Id actually have kuyt on the left than anybody else ...
At the start of last season many people expected Liverpool to challenge for the title after the previous season. This season we are expected to challenge for 6th/5th/4th. From last seasons panel we have lost the following first team squad players: Mascherano Aquilani Insua Benayoun Riera Degan Cavaleiri In their place we've got: Meireles Poulson Konchesky Joe Cole Jovanovic Kelly Jones It'll take a while to get the team to play the way the manager wants them to (and these three stupid international games that have been played since the squad got together wont help of course), but in my opinion we are no worse off personnel wise that we were this time last year.
Well done ROY great read ROCCO,Mei better Quality in than out as to the way Roy will have them playing imo.
Liverpool fans shouldn't take any notice of the league table until at least ten games have been played, according to manager Roy Hodgson. With four points from the opening three games the Reds are mid-table in the early season standings, but the boss insists no hasty conclusions should be drawn from the opening weeks of the campaign. "I know how many points we have but I don't know what that means in terms of the table," he said. "I think tables are of no interest until at least ten games have been played. Then you start looking to see how big a gap there is between yourself and the top teams or between yourself and the bottom teams. I don't think you worry about that after three games. "The programme plays a big part in that and we've already played Arsenal at home and Manchester City away. Injuries play a part as well when teams don't have their best team available early on but will do soon. "After ten games I will start worrying about the table but until then I'll worry more about performances and results." With the recent round of international games having been scheduled for Friday and Tuesday, Hodgson - like his managerial counterparts all over the country - has been afforded more time than usual to prepare for weekend action following an international break. "A day is a day and an extra day helps enormously," he said. "In the past it has been very problematic when our game has been on a Saturday because players played Wednesday and then sometimes didn't get back until the Friday, so you'd hardly see them before a game. "This week we got most of the players back on Wednesday which gave us Thursday, Friday and also Saturday to prepare. "It's a huge advantage and a very sensible decision that FIFA/UEFA have made and I think we thank the elite coaches who go to these assemblies every year for making the suggestion and having the suggestion adopted." http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/look-at-league-after-10-games
fairly disappointed with his interview today we were dyer and he was just talking up birmingham.instead of having a pair and saying it wasnt good enough.same system as last year 2(taking into account cole was out) not really buying into his ideas at the moment
I wouldn't be reading too much into interviews. Roy's normal nice chap persona has been squashed by many pro's. Including Paul Ince who said he was worse then whiskeynose when he went off on you. He hasn't even had a chance to play his first 11 for one game nevermind a run of games. Can't be judged until at least xmas or seasons end for me.
Agree totally with above. Without making excuses but of our fixtures so far would only put the WBA as a guaranteed 3 points. Next week is another tough game. End of season is time to judge. We are not going to win PL this season and at moment think we are at best a top 6 team. If Roy gets us a top 4 finish with current crop of players, he will and team will of over achieved this season. Going to get slated for this but an honest opinion.
