Carra and who was partnering him would depend who were playing! If were playin a team with a big man up front eg Kevin Davies, Bobby Zamora, Crouchie then I would go with Soto as he is the most dominant in the air and takes no sh1t! Aginst teams that we would expect to dominate I'd prefer Agger because he'd look to bring the ball forward and start off an attack! In the future I'd like to see a Skrtel-Agger partnership and thisseason is probably the season to start working on that and giving them a few games together. Hopefully they will both have benefitted from playing a couple of years with Carra and can step into the organiser role he plays once his time is up.
Id personally have Carra and Agger, but i must say i do like Kelly and also people are forgetting Danny Wilson! i think he's got all the attributes along with Kelly to be 2 new Carras
Don't have a lot of faith in our CB's at the moment if I'm being honest and in an ideal world would have brought in someone with pace who's commanding in the air. Carra's a shadow of the player he was between 04-08,Skrtel's prone to making the odd rash mistake and he's not looked the same since that injury at Eastlands a while back,Agger is always injured and has never progressed into the world class player I thought he could be.Soto is great in the air and a brilliant option to have for certain games but he's only a stop gap and would be found out if we had to rely on him week in,week out.I have a good feeling about Wilson but he won't get much game time this year and Roy seems to have Kelly marked down as a full back for the time being. I'd be inclined to phase Carra out this year but he'd still have an important role to play.I think at his age, playing virtually every game is affecting his performances and he'd be a more useful asset if he was used sparingly and kept fresh for the big games where we need his leadership and experience. It's going to happen soon so we might aswell do it during a season where expectations are as low as they've been in years.Carra's incessant hoofing of the ball to the lone striker is something that drives me mad. It's shocking to watch (which I can get over) but it also usually leads to us surrendering posession. Carra is vocal and an intelligent organiser whereas Skrtel and Agger are very quiet but JC won't be around for ever-it's about time the two lads stepped out of his shadow and took more responsibility.
Flashback to May 2009 the last game of the season against Tottenham which was also the final match that Sami played. I was in the Anfield Road end and among the discussion with the two other lads I was with was the future CB pairings. We were all of the opinion that Skrtel and Agger needed to play much more and we would see less of Jaime during the following season. Then the following season started and Carra managed to knock out Skrtel in one of the opening games and it had a huge negative effect on the team and I don't think we really recovered from the awful start to the season. Injuries seemed to define the players available in defence last season and all of the players who played in defence seemed to have long periods of extended injury time last season except Carra. I think Jaime Carragher knows that he can not go on playing as many games as he plays every season but I think he will still be the dominant centre back again this season.
I have to admit, I forgot about Danny Wilson, a player who I really rate with a very bright future. Would think for the future He and martin Kelly would be the way forward, provided they get a chance. Yeah I know Cara aint gettin any younger, but for now, I'll stick with him and Agger.....till either proves different. Thanx for the responses folks. Much appreciated.
True......true......, I think we have a bright future in this position. Lets take it from here yeah !
think we should have two playing for each match when they are fit..not a fan of rotating in that position. any other position fair enough but centre back shouldnt be rotated.
