Got 150 squid so far myself Remember, to point people to the mycharity.ie page! http://www.mycharity.ie/event/haloween_hike
doing some mooching around TK maxx in the swords pavillions this morning and i seen the boots barnsielad is talking about for 50e in there.theyve a good selection of boots and jackets for hiking.
I was up in lidl tis morning and was looking at these jackets are they any use? http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20100823.index
Depends how many times ya use a hike jacket really Mark or whether you will need a good rain jacket for the winter period. I say the trousers are ok. They wont be waterproof though. two websites I use a lot are Cotswold based in Belfast & Liverpool and Great Outdoors, though Cotswold much cheaper Im a fan of Berghaus gear myself. Regatta isnt bad
Ye had a look at these jackets, only water resistant not proof, bought one but bringing it back,no walking poles tho,i got 1 free with my boots on sat,1 is enough with my dodgy knees ye?
yeah you should be ok Mark with the 1 pole. Do you ever use the knee supports for football? I sometimes wear one of them. The highest spot height is 550 metres and even at that were gradually assending and desending. Nothing major on the first part of the Wicklow way. Our half way point is Glencullen, so if its paining you ya can cut out there. By the way all - If you are cutting off at the half way point you may need to arrange transport. We do have some people already mentioned on the thread that have been kind enough to offer assistance with cars.
No bother. And I dont mean you, I dont want any of the 30+ people collapsing on me! Half way point is glencullen where any injured (hopefully not!) or tired people can get a lift! We are looking for some people interested in being drivers! - Well noticed by Ciara that the hike document I placed up on the internet is not opening. I'll try and fix that as soon as Im home
And the hike document is now a pdf. If any of you guys have problems opening it please let me know www.xtrememedia.ie/hike.pdf Still looking for some volunteers as spot drivers - its giving a couple of hours as standby to stay at Glencullen in case we need to get any injured (hopefully none) or tired people home or to Enniskerry. Please PM me if your available for this.
Thanks for al the comments - hey Im just the organiser. There is 30+ walkers! Remember to donate, and those hikers I hope you all have sponsor cards... lets get money in for Pam and the ILFA, she deserves every penny!
weve plenty of time to raise it too so weve no excuse.quick question im gonna be buying hiking boots for it how much of a break in do you reckon they need?
It usually takes a week to loosen up the boot. When you buy boots, try on both boots and make sure they are comfortable. Wear hiking socks when trying on boots. I have lost count of people telling me "oh they felt comfortable in the shop, now they feel tight" - Because they didnt wear hiking socks in the store! You can get leather conditioners that will help loosen the boot upper when breaking in the boot. I recommend walking a couple of km a day for about a week to break in the boot. Dont have the laces to tight and make sure the tongue of the boot is correct. If you feel heat around the heal or ball of your foot you may want to change - you may need a larger boot. Hope this helps
Fair play to ya Mark, not a bad hike ya did there buddy and enjoyed the photos. Guess ya came out through Crone after or did you just reverse back on yourself? Guys and Girls if anyone else needs sponsor cards please PM me. I have had a few requesting more cards which is just fantastic Every penny counts. Dont forget people can also donate online! When people have the cards filled up and after the hike, feel free to send the cheque in directly to the ILFA but please PM me the ammount you raised. I would love to try and keep track of how much we raise for Pam throughout this hike. So far I know we are well over €500 - but I have only talked to 2 people. Lets keep trekking (no pun intended!)
i see lidl are doing yet more trousers jackets rain gear etc this thursday http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20100909.index
Ye seen that, the jackets look better than the ones they had a while ago, these ones are water and wind proof, also the backpacks which are pretty handy.
