Im sure spurs thought the same thing when they appointed juande ramos as their manager - right age, did an unbeilevable job with seville (couldve actually won the league on the last day of the season if results had gone their way - livrpool havent been ever thath cles since the prem started) and played arguably the sexiest football in la liga at the time.I still think he's an excellent manager but he wouldve relegated spurs if he stayed on and they wre rock bottom til redknapp took em over - ok harry has bought a few players but gomez, bale, dawson, king, woodgate, lennon, lenas, modric, keane, huddlestone were all there when harry took over and were there last year when he got them into the CL - now i dont rate harry redknapp as a messiah like sky sports...but there's just a tint tiny chance the fact he's english and knows the english game mte have had something to do with it. Ramos is an excellent coach but didnt have a clue what the premiership entailed and so struggled badly...statistically its as least as likely that pellegrini would've struggled the same as it is he wouldve been a roaring success.
so appointing an intelligent knowledgeable english manager was actually the intelligent logical solution rather than the 'safe' option.
as for teh whole 'his appointment shows a lack of ambition as compared to the ambition of rafa' is jsut a load of horsemanure - i'm sure roy gets up every morning having no interest in winning trophies and is just thee to pick up the wages. actually a guy at 62 with his obvious hunger for the game would be driven inexorably to succeed as he knows time is running out on his career and he doesnt have much time left in football to achieve success - so when at a huge club like liverpool he would see it as a huge opportunity to achieve what he dearly wants, ie success and recognition in his homeland.
as for the comparison of rafa's buys with those of hodgson - hodgson actually has to make a profit from the transfer market - in the first 3 years of rafas reign he was able to operate in the transfr market at a loss and still finished 21 and 35 points behind the leaders in 2 of those 3 seasons - so u just cant compare the two transfer policies.
if anything i think we're more likely to achieve some moderate success with a new fresh face than if we persisted with hte same dour insipid football of the past 12 months...hodgsonmay lack the oft mentioned tactical nous of rafa or definite tactical genius of mourinho...buti think its an insult to think he lacks ambition

Nice post Badman, good to have a decent bit of reading from an opposing view.

In my view it's the club that lacks ambition right now rather than the manager, no doubt Roy is in there to do his best but even at his very best he will still be hampered by the tightrope that is the clubs lack of financial support to him

Nice well written original post have to admit i agree with it .... but on the point of Insua if its sure he has only 12 months left , if he then signs for another club because of his age under 24 we will imo get around £4m+ in compensation if he signs for another club.

Its well written but whatever you think of Roy and Konchesky i think its b****x calling them symptoms of a disease. He's been our manager for 2 months and Koncheskey hasn't played. They're not the most glamourous but they're our own. And starting out they deserve some support
