Working and living over here in Canada for the last 3 years, and I know that things are pretty shitty still at home, so if anyone is considering moving over this way for work and wants any info just drop me a line and I'd be only too willing to help if I can. Working in Architecture myself, recession certainly hasn't hit Canada as bad as other places, and if you go through USIT (student or U35 programme) then you don't have to worry about sponsorship from a Canadian company.
What part of Canada are you in? Its something Im seriously thinking about, graduated from civil engineering last year and just done a masters but don't really know what the future holds now
In Calgary since 2007 mate, has suffered a small bit with the recession, but not half as bad as other places, and with Alberta being driven by the oil sands money in the north its a sort of mini-economy in itself. Couldn't say enough good things about USIT either, think it was around E500 when I did it, and they organize all the work permit & immigration stuff for you, and you don't have to worry about anything. Its an open work permit as well so you can get a job in anything you want (other than childcare & teaching I think). Its for sure the easiest way to land in Canada and be able to work straight away, after the year then you have hopefully done enough that your employer wants to keep you and go through the sponsorship process.
