Jamie Carragher has revealed he expects to sign a new deal at Liverpool in the near future.

The 32-year-old put contract talks on hold earlier this year, but new Reds boss Roy Hodgson has made it one of his top priorities to sort out Carragher's situation.

Carragher, who celebrates his testimonial this weekend against Everton, has held positive talks with the club's hierarchy and is hopeful it will get resolved later this month.

"I have spoken to the managing director, Christian Purslow, and we've had a good chat about the new contract," said Carragher

    "I'm sure it will happen.

"The most important thing was for the club to get the ins and outs sorted before the transfer deadline.

"That's done now so I'm sure we will have something sorted out in the next week or two."
    Wembley dream

Meanwhile, Carragher has set his sights on reaching a Wembley cup final with Liverpool this season as he has yet to play in the national stadium for the Reds in his illustrious career.

"I want to push on, I want to get in the top four and I want to win a trophy," added Carragher.

"Liverpool supporters haven't been to Wembley for a very long time because of the Cardiff situation a few years ago and I want to play at Wembley for Liverpool.

"I've never done that and that is one of my aims for this season. We don't want to be treading water, I certainly hope not."

Jamie signed a new deal, Happy Friday folks, hope its start of something today.....

Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce that Jamie Carragher has signed a two year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until June 2013.

The Reds vice captain has been a key fixture in the side since making his debut back in January 1997 and currently ranks sixth in the club's all-time list of appearances having donned the famous shirt on no fewer than 641 occasions.

The No. 23 enjoyed a testimonial against Everton earlier this year and is now in the midst of his 15th season with the club.

He has won no fewer than 10 major honours with the Reds, including two FA Cups, two League Cups, a UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

    Deal signed until 2013

Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher has signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the Anfield club until the summer of 2013.

The 32-year-old put contract talks on hold earlier this year, but new Reds boss Roy Hodgson made it one of his top priorities to sort out Carragher's situation and now the long-serving defender has agreed the extension.

Carragher has established himself as a key member of the Liverpool side and a big fans' favourite since breaking into the team in January 1997.

The former England international enjoyed a testimonial against Everton last month as reward for his services to the club.

Carragher has made 641 appearances for the Reds and he is currently in his 15th season with the Anfield outfit.

News of his new deal will come as a major boost amid the ongoing takeover talk surrounding the Reds and this weekend's Merseyside derby.

Liverpool go into the match in the Premier League relegation zone having suffered a shock home defeat by Blackpool prior to the international break.

+1, don't want to sound cynical, the man is a complete legend, but I think this contract probably just means that he will be a Liverpool player for his entire career, and then hopefully filter over towards the coaching / managing role at the club that he wants at the end of his contract. Personally speaking I think its the least he deserves.

He is not worth two more years. He is at this stage in a career detrimental to the team.

We need a strong manager who will get rid of him. Just like Shanks, Paisley and Fagan would have.

There should not be room for sentiment when making a team selection.

He's not good enough anymore for the first team. Too nervous in possession and he is unable to play a 5 yard pass, as all he seems to do now is hoof the ball up front.
I hope this is just for a transition into a coaching role.

Exactly, I am dumbfounded why a 34 year old was given a 2 year contract.

Is he 34 yet? Sami Hyppia should have been given a 4 year contract when he was 34, Carragher is still the best defender at the club, thats not saying alot I know but its true.

9 million for a liability. Concerning.

Cannot be blinded for what he did a couple of years ago, sentimentality has no place in winning I'm afraid.

Far too influentinal in the club and how its run it seems. It is concerning.

Good point, imagine if we spent 4m on a new 32year-old CB and then paid him 50grand a week. Thats 9million over 2 years, the same as Carra is getting, but there would be uproar.

Sami was still a quality defender unfortunately Carra isn't as intelligent at reading the game as Sami is and was.

Two more years of Carragher starting when he really shouldn't be. Can anyone tell me why Carragher is now playing right back and Martin Kelly is sitting on the bench? Carragher struggled today, it seems to me like he always has to start.
What we need is a strong manager that takes no shit.

He's still alot better than Skertel and Agger, I know thats not saqying alot but its true, Skertel can be outstanding but very often hes a disaster, while Agger is awful and has been living off the 2006/2007 season for to long now

should have been a 1 year rolling contract. its not like he would have turned it down.

stupid to give him 2 year contract at his age. doesnt make sense. you can see his legs are going as well.

great player but the end is in sight.
