If we sell Alonso for less than £30m, when he has 3 yrs left on his contract and top of his game, we're idiots. Bigger idiots than Rick Parry ever was. We don't need to sell so I really don't see why we should unless the offer is mind blowing. £30m isn't even that to be honest
Maybe its because Alonso wants to go, can't force a player to be committed to us if his heart is elsewhere.
i believe this is the case for alonso, he wants out simple as and we shouldnt stand in his way and force him to stay
I know what your saying Dave, but he was very happy to sign a long contract with us when it suited him and I dont think he should be allowed to hold the club to ransom. If Rafa says he doesn't want to sell him, that should be the end of it, and he should knuckle down and get on with it. I think he is treating the club with disrespect and if he does go and join the circus I hope it goes tits up for him.
would hate to see him go but i suppose last summer must have left a sour taste for him with the whole gareth barry thing.
well hes spanish, hes a midfielder and they are going back to the galacticos policy so i think the writings on the wall how it will play out
Supposedly real are holding out until the 18th when the 20% clause is up with sociedad and supposedly alonso said sort it out by the 19th otherwise he's staying so if all that is true hopefully it can't all be sorted out between the 18th and 19th and alonso is true to his word and would be happy to stay. If he does stay he needs to forget about the past and hit the ground running with the rest of the lads because if we are going to win number 19 next season we can't afford a slow start or someone at the club who doesn't want to be there.
Fair enough if he wants out, especially if it's for family reasons or being homesick, but Madrid have to cough up the cash for his full value. He should have thought about this when he signed a long term contract. If Madrid aren't prepared to pay the asking price they obviously don't value him as highly as they are letting on to. Ronaldo's heart was elsewhere last summer yet he still won Utd a title. Xabi has three years left and if Real don't value him as highly as we do then I don't see any reason to sell. They've ripped us off twice before, they can go do one this time
Hes 27 developed into great player at Liverpool, and now wants to move on. Hes probably the best passer of a ball in world football and Liverpool should do their best to keep him.Cant see him going for less than £30-35 million
As far as im concerned i think alonso was possibly our best player last season. Next season looks like a genuine chance for us to win the league for the 1st time in a long long time but losin alonso wud be a massive loss and to be honest i dont think we cud win it without him. Therefore, because of the fact he has 3years on his contract its a no brainer.....reject all bids no matter how high they are!!! If he was in the last year of his contract then id understand havin to sell him, but he's not. And he's not the type of player who would sulk about not gettin a transfer (e.g. ronaldo)
Wouldnt sell alonso for any money n the world, that guy is priceless. Rumours all summer last year that he was gonna leave and we would sign barry etc ,in the end he stayed and look at the job he done for us, for me he was our player of the year last season. He is a pure pro and a real classy footballer, very intelligent player, never panics, great on the ball, unreal vision to pick out a pass and id imagine agood person to have in your squad overall.
i agree you cant replace a player of that quality, the last time i seen him he was kissing the crest and waving at the kop hope he didnt mean anything by that.
Fully agree. We need one or two quality additions without having to replace one of our top players. My only concern is that Xabi himself might want out, especially after the Barry saga last summer.
Exclusive: Xabi Alonso moving to Real Madrid dependent on Alvaro Negredo swap deal By Alan Nixon 4/07/2009 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...-on-alvaro-negredo-swap-deal-115875-21493148/ Xabi Alonso will get his dream move from Liverpool to Real Madrid – if Rafa Benitez takes striker Alvaro Negredo in a swap deal. Spanish midfield star Alonso wants to join Madrid’s new Galacticos in a £32million move, but Kop chief Benitez has been holding out for more – and is now being offered £10m-rated Negredo. The 23-year-old has been a major success during two seasons on loan at Almeria in La Liga, top scoring with 13 and then 19 goals. He was hoping to get a shot at playing for Real – only to find out there are bigger names filling the shirts. Now he has emerged as the key player in the deal, with Benitez considering taking him to play with Fernando Torres in his Anfield attack. Negredo should be strong enough for the Premier. His nickname is the ‘wild animal’ because of his robust style. Benitez would rather pick his own players, but the Real reserve could be the answer. Alonso has made his feelings about a move known with heavy hints in the media and to pals. His departure would also be softened if Benitez could land a midfielder and sources in France reveal he is still on the trail of Marseille’s Albanian skipper Lorik Cana. Marseille have signed two players for their midfield – Lucho Gonzalez and Everton target Stephane M’Bia – and will let Cana leave. Kenny Dalglish is returning to Liverpool to take up a senior role in their academy and as a global ambassador.
Cana is a very skillful player, but not on Alonso's level.... Its looking like Xabi is going, so Rafa has to have his "plan" come into effect.
Alonso leaves and you can kiss the league title goodbye for next season. Its very simple you would be ripping out the core of the team and Rafa wont replace him.
Personally I think thats a bit of a defeatest attitude and wouldn't agree with it myself. Its best to let him go now instead for having a player who doesn't want to be there and could be a disruptive figure in the dressing room. He needs to get over the past and just play. But if he goes I full trust in Rafa and he of all people can handle the blow and bring number 19 with or without alonso. Alonso won't win us the league if he stays and if he goes it won't mean we won't win the league either.
got to agree with other posters on this one,i think alonsos departure could be detrimental to a serious title challenge,he got his act together last season and propelled us to a different level,to lose that would be a serious blow.he's got 3 years left, make him see them out, players have too much power these days. i dont agree that xabi would be a disruptive figure in the dressing room, that would have been evident last season and it was not, especially being treated the way he was last summer(some may say deservedly so going on his form),the mans a model professional on the pitch these days and im sure he would continue to churn out top notch performances should rafa decide to keep him. im of the opinion that it will be down to rafael benitez where he plays next year and it is out of xabis hands.
