Last weekend I was out on town in Dublin and got chatting to a few lads from Liverpool. Two Everton fans and one Liverpool. The Liverpool fan is a season ticket holder and anyway we were chatting about tickets and cost of going over from Ireland. After a few bevies, I started to get the impression he was not overly keen on the droves of Irish fans who descended on Anfield every week. He was raving about Out of towners spoiling the atmosphere etc... and only coming for one or two matches a year. The only real fans are locals who have season tickets etc.... Anyway I let him have his say. I then pointed that many Irish supporters of Liverpool go to 10 to 15 matches a year at a great cost (Average Trip for Tickets, Flights and one night accom 150 stg), costing somewhere in the region of 1500/2000 stg a year. Does that make them a more loyal fan than a local who only has to get his bus fare and ticket (40 stg a match. 1k stg a year). He fairly pointed out that loads of locals go to away matches, european etc.... I pointed that loads of Irish do too. anyway soon after, we took into takin the piss out of the Everton lads so all was forgotten. What do u think the general perception of locals in Liverpool is towards us Irish Reds? I have had the Out of Towner jibes a few times and two years ago in the Park, a mate got his nose busted because he had a tri colour with him before a Champions League Group game against Chelsea.
this is almost constantly appearing on RAWK, I dont think you can solely blame ott's for a lack of atmosphere. There might be a few more in the grounds at home games but there still is a large scouse contingent.
I can understand how the locals feel about out of towners coming to the matches, especially if they have problems with getting tickets, but its not just the irish, its people from all round the world coming to the matches. Just tell the locals that if there werent any Liverpool fans in Ireland they'd be pretty much all United....
Why the f*ck did he bring a tri colour???? does he bring Liverpool flags to Ireland matches??? The lack of atmosphere because of OOT's gets banded around alot and is unfair to a certain extent. because there are alot of muppets travelling over to matches giving decent Irish reds a bad name because of lack of respect for the city and the team. I sometimes hear people who have been over saying atmosphere wasn't great so I ask them did they sing, cheer on the team applaud and shout until they couldn't anymore. If you don't do your bit don't moan about it!!! Rant over
He brings it to all matches, in fact it was right behind the goal at the Anfield Road end against Bestikas last week. You see Tricolours at all games in England - United, Chelsea, Arsenal andVilla. I have even saw them at Barca and Madrid games on sky. I don't see any harm in it myself. You see Finnish fans bringing them to Anfield and also Spanish ones too. As for bringing Liverpool flags to Ireland matches, I have not seen any flags, although I have noticed lots of Liverpool shirts with Finnan 3 on them
This is terrible! I havent been to Anfield since i got married 3 years ago, until then i went 5-8 times a season never had any trouble about being an OOT, but ive got to be honest was thinking about taking my son over early new year and this is putting me off! There are plenty of genuine irish reds and to tar the whole lot with 1 brush is pretty unfair and as Digger said it aint just the irish there are reds travelling from all over the world to games.
I would not go that far mate. Thousands go over every week and there is no hassle. You are going to get the odd isolated incident.
Ok if thats your wife i can understand a little! Bring her with you to the Anfield games, im sure the locals would be more happy then!
Lads, here's part of my post in another thread about the Fulham game at the weekend. "Voronin looked very good but came in for dog's abuse from two drunk Dubliners by us in the Anfield Road end. Every opinion was shouted out, including "If Rafa doesn't take this f***er off, he should get the sack too, that c**t is not good enough to wear the red jersey" Two scousers next to me were saying "there's too many f***ing Irish coming over here" and for once I didn't find it hard to understand them, embarassing..." They didn't stop for 90 minutes and a steward came over to them a couple of times for the language with kids around. It's heroes like those two that give the rest of us a bad name. Sure, you get twats everywhere you go but it's more noticeable when you're clearly not locals.
You see im all for a bit of craic but if im going to watch a match why get sloshed before it? There is plenty of time on sat nite for a few jars, you are right Liverpool-law there are twats everywhere but ill bet these two guys aint been to 5 games in there lives just a weekend on the piss to them and ruin everyone elses name!
KopIrish, the thinking is loosely outlined in the KFS way of things - Keep Flags Scouse. England flags and irish flags for example are looked upon with considerable scorn. There's a variety of reasons for this. The simplest reason is we're different. Whenever you see other English clubs playing abroad whether it would be Chelsea, Arsenal or the English national team it's the same stupid banners. St George flags plastered with the nicknames of their owners and the supposedly witty "on tour"slogan slapped in the middle. Boring. Unoriginal. Classless. To put it bluntly most LFC fans don't want to be seen in this same light. The KFS is not something that has been made up. It is the belief of the majority of match going Liverpool fans and has been for years. The proof? Every European away. Every final. Almost every time you see a Liverpool flag! Lads, Lets just keep it that way and show the world that when we're at Anfield, we follow the mighty Liverpool and not our country. Make all your Irish mate matchgoers aware of this and lets promote it on this forum. Another thing that pisses the local season ticket holders around Anfield is all chants of "who are ya?", "eas-eh" and "you're not singing anymore". These chants are not welcome at Anfield. Seasoned heads like myself shake my head everytime i hear these chants. It is embarrassing. This is NOT the Liverpool Way. Locals immediately think "daytrippers" or " OOT's. Sad but true. It's probably about time that regular Anfield goer's of all ages got more involved. If everything goes to plan we will be leaving Anfield in 2011. That gives us 4 years left at Anfield. The eyes of the football world will soon be on us. Let's go out with a bang and get the atmosphere at home games back where it should be. Liverpool F.C exists as a source of pride for us, its supporters. It has no other purpose. We will get behind the team through thick and thin. We will, always, give them strength. Let’s leave the negative stuff in the pubs. Once we set foot inside Anfield, we are Redmen and we have one purpose; to help the team win
i really do cringe when i see GAA jerseys in anfield and ANYONE singing the likes of "who are ya" should be ejected immediately! I do think the match day programme should have a section with do's and don'ts with regards to chants
GAA jerseys at a soccer match is just stupid if your going to support liverpool, wear liverpool colours as for bringin country flags to games, pure stupid if you ask me, i think its more of a "did ya see me on the telly, look out for the irish flag" sorta thing
Agree fully on the GAA jerseys as i said before on a seperate post at the Spurs game some clown in front of me with a Louth jersey on him started to boo when the half time whistle went(it was 1-1 at the time. A few scousers rightly gave him a load of abuse which he deserved, you can see why the locals get annoyed when things like that happen so lets leave our GAA jerseys and Irish flags at home, were Liverpool supporters that day not GAA fans.
