Is anyone on here a member of boards.ie? I look at the football section of the site every now and then and had been thinking of joining up.I wont be now.So today a thread was started entitled " Liverpool and everton black armband jerseys" from a member of the site who is a moderator no less.Certain items in the thread are done in very bad taste and references to the 96 as well as the McCann child are made within the thread for it seems reasons of comedy .Not sure if anyone on Irishkop is a member there but if you are please report this post to the boards.ie site moderators if possible as i find the references to the 96 insulting in particualar and would like action taken to insure the use of a terrible time in the clubs history is'nt used for entertainment purposes in the future. Thanks.
I'm a member but don't use it much, never used the football section. I'll check this out I see Our very own Dub13 has sorted it out. Pr*#k that muppet who posted it.
Unbe-fookin-lievable to be honest. I've reported it - and anyone who's registered on boards (don't have to be Soccer forum registered) should do as well. I stated the following in my comments: "I am not registered to post on this forum (Soccer). And I won't be now either. This thread has actually been referenced on sites elsewhere, and it's a disgrace that a mod would post something like this. Take it as an overreaction, I don't care, but as a passionate Liverpool fan, and ignoring that, a relatively moral person - I can't see how 96 dead fans, plus murdered and abducted children is funny. This thread should be locked and an apology posted."
Just seen that Dub 13 was on the site.Im all for a laugh but this is a bit much.Nah actually it's bang out of order. No need for it at all
I only posted on boards.ie occasionally, mostly on the buddhism section. (I'm not a buddhist just curious) However it has a reputation for being run by t**sers. A friend of mine who is an ex mod on it has verified the truth of that claim for me.
it consists of more arguments than a discussion with valid opinions. a response to Mr alans post to the moderater saying i hope you get banned was and i quote "i hope YOU get banned",,,, childish if you ask me
The whole thing was childish that thread was disgraceful. Although it is ironic that it should come up, because Alexei Sayle has a new programme starting tomorrow night about Liverpool, which was inspired by the reaction to comments he made. Apparently he also commented on a victim mentality. Didn't hear what he said, just thought it a coincidence that this came up the day before that programme goes out. As for Hillsbrough a child getting abducted and another child being killed, they are never funny. I wonder if someone said it about a tragedy that happened in Cork or Dublin or wherever, would some of these 'comedians' from those cities find it funny. I think not.
Childish rubbish is all it is. Wouldn't even pay attention to it. There are some sick people in this world.
I actually quite like boards and think the Liverpool thread is usually fairly good (I contribute to it alot ). Seriously, there's a handful of good soccer posters who know their stuff. But now and then you get a muppet who either isn't very bright or likes trolling who makes down right silly contributions. Their arguement can be picked apart in seconds but yet the discussion will last for pages. I genuinely think this forum lends itself more to proper debate on football rather than reduce to childish squabble. I'm only on a week and may not have contributed much to the community yet, but I feel I've gained quite a bit of insight from the other posters here. Fair play guys.
i have came across it a few times, i find that alot of united fans go in there to stir everyone up, least on here there seems to be alot of geniune fans
Should we maybe get something going on this, boycott/awareness type thing. Imagine any scousers came accross that site, we get enough abuse as irish as it is without something like that , utterly disgusting and diplorable. You know I feel we are really on a race to the bottom these days in this country. What with yer man that comedians comments on Madeline McCann and such.
I didn't think much of that kind of 'humour' myself. Laughing or disrespecting the memory of people who died is a bit cheap. Whether it's the Munich air tragedy in '58, the Hillsborough 96 or Maddie McCann, it's all the same. None of those are even in a position to defend themselves or share the joke. Threads like that should be locked from the off imo. I found it slightly ironic that some noted pool 'fans' could endorse the joke. Anyone defending the memory was counted as a dry old fart by a dosen responses and told to lighten up. Fair play to Dub13 for locking the thread.
I'm only on this site about 2 weeks longer than you and have found the same. The fact that we are all Liverpool fans help we all ove the same club to differing degrees and thus have (a) a common bond and (b) a genuine interest. It's educational too. In my first week here, I posted a thread which had to be locked because the argumnts it generated got a bit heated. It boiled down to pure mis-interpretations and I learned to be a bit more careful in my use of language here. With boards.ie you find a lot of trolls. I post regularly on politics.ie and used to be a mod there, you get the same sort there.
Fair point Martin. I think it stems from a (quite legitimate) viewpoint that we shouldn't have holy cows that can't be touched. That things are there to be taken fun of. I have strong political views and can poke fun at myself politically etc. I laugh at the constant Irish jokes in Simpsons and Family guy, I personally found the Ray Houghton sketch on Phoenix from the Flames hilarious, but there are incidents that don't lend themselves to jokes. Hillsborough is one such event, the same with Heysel and Munich. I mean can you imagine the reaction from Derry people if there was a joke about Bloody Sunday? We all like a laugh. Life is unbearable without it, but 'jokes' about 96 people being crushed to death at a soccer match are crass to say the least.
I honestly don't think a boycott would be much point. Most of us don't use boards.ie, I personally think it's rubbish. Besides it was one post that was locked. I think by boycotting it, you just give it morepublicity. I think the particular mod should be asked to apologise or resign as mod. Especially given that boards.ie are notorious for censoring views they don't agree with, so to let amod away with something that an ordinary member would probably have been banned for is the real issue here.
I find with other forums there can be a certain amount of 'critique the poster' rather than their 'post'. One or two English forums I read through, but didn't join were very bad in particular. Poster 1: "Bentley would be a good signing". Cue about 3 pages of responses. Most along the lines "Are you f@@@@@@ ret@@@@@ or something?". Bit pointless to be honest. You'll also see alot of picture posts with 'FAIL' written in, admittedly very creative but not exactly relevant. The posters here have often agreed and disagreed with my posts. But if they choose to disagree it's done in a balanced way and certainly not personal. So, I can gain a bit from it and I respect that.
Here here.Im not calling for a boycott because on the whole i believe the boards.ie site to be valuable.I know you will get trolls and that but some things are off limits and hillsborough, munich, heysel, bradford fire etc.. are all things you shouldnt be joking about, especially on a football forum This moderator who started the thread should be forced to make an apology or be banned from the site altogether.I'm sorry but any references to the 96 in this way is unacceptable.
