We are joining up with the emergency services to run a 6 a side tournament at the LFC Academy on Saturday 16 June. The event is something the M'side Emergency Services have been running for 9 years but this Summer it is their 10th anniversary and they would like to extend the entry to other teams. It is called the 999 Cup! The aim would be to charge an entry, (around £100 pp based on teams of 10 with rolling subs) and this would include a minimum of 3 matches, lunch and also the chance the meet a Former Player who would present the cup to the winning team. The aim is to have 16 teams in total The proceeds of the event would be divided between the Fire Services existing projects, the first of which is a kids football coaching session which takes place on a Friday evening in the Dingle, (it shows the fire-fighters commitment to the project as they hardly ever get a Friday evening off!) The other funds would go back into the LFC Foundation to fund our existing projects to: 1. Work with young people to improve their life skills across Liverpool City Region and key international markets. 2. Work with ex servicemen and women to rebuild their lives after returning home from areas of conflict 3. Promote and deliver a men's health program for active healthy living Would really appreciate your thoughts on this and also to gauge any interest you might think there would be from colleagues internally. It is for a very good cause, but also a very rare opportunity to play at the Academy, the UK's first football Academy, where the likes of Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler were nurtured and where the stars of the future are being discovered! 23 Foundation invest £23,000 in communities this summer Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation will be investing at least £23,000 this summer in communities as part of its continuing work. Supporting a variety of Merseyside community projects, activities will especially encourage young people to actively reach for their dreams by following their interests. Since September 2010 a £1 million endowment fund has been established to support the 23 Foundation’s long-term charitable work. By the end of this summer the Foundation will have given out over £100,000 in charitable grants to Merseyside’s communities since 2010. After its success last year a key summer project supported this year by the 23 Foundation is Anfield Sports and Community Centre’s summer holiday activities for local young people. Other funding support includes for Liverpool Homeless Football Club to provide sports activities and advice for Merseyside’s homeless men and women, and also for Litherland Youth and Community Centre in getting some way to raising £64,000 for two new astro turf pitches for local Sefton people which they hope will be used by around 300 people a week. The 23 Foundation has also just recruited for its second Intern as part of its commitment to supporting local young people in their work experience and career development. The 23 Foundation was publicly launched on 4 September 2010 at Carragher’s Testimonial which saw past Liverpool players come back for a Liverpool XI against an Everton XI at Anfield, including, Michael Owen, Jamie Redknapp, Danny Murphy, Jason McAteer, Jerzy Dudek, Stephen Warnock and Emile Heskey. The 23 Foundation, administered by the Community Foundation for Merseyside, encourages young people in Merseyside to actively reach for their dreams by following their interests. The 23 Foundation believes that by providing a framework for achieving their goals, the Merseyside community – of which Jamie himself is very much a part of – can develop more confident, well rounded individuals. Obviously none of this would have been possible with you, your support and help.
