I've been thinking about this a lot recently and after the crowd at Anfield on Saturday, and the treatment of Lucas, it confirmed it. I don't buy the reasons put forward in the article in the Liverpool Echo (as posted in another thread). I don't blame fear of failure, the 20-year wait for the title or so-called day-trippers/OOTs. I blame sites like this one. Forums where a lot of people waste a lot of their lives. Where people actually feel like they have a community, a voice, an opinion. Forgetting that they really don't actually know anything about football - I don't mean stats or anything like that but actual knowledge of what it is like to play/manage at the top level in the Premier League. That's why you're posting on an online forum. (I'm not for one moment saying I know anything...) It was online football forums that caused Lucas' treatment on Saturday. His performances and strengths and weaknesses discussed to death every week on sites like this. It gets under your skin and gets in your head. You hear a few people groan and before you know it you all join in. Do any of you think he would have got that treatment if they were no online forums? No threads where people can post "Sell Lucas in Jan..." or "He'll never make it..." or "Not good enough". I was embarrassed to be a Liverpool fan on Saturday and I've made a decision. Give me the sanatised nonsense on BBC or SKY anyday over this load of never-ending rubbish (what is with everyone calling each other "lad"? No matter how hard ye try you're never going to be Scouse) where people can hide behind the safety of anonymity. I'm cancelling my user account and never posting on this or any other online forum again. Some people need to have a good look at themselves. Best fans in the world my @rse.
I agree with you mate that what went on Saturday wasn't what I would call great show of the "Liverpool Way". Booing that Lucas wasn't taken off was disrespectful to more so Rafa as manager. At the end of the day you have to look and think outside the box objectively, my name is Alan Breen from Waterford, Ireland and I have no qualms in saying Lucas is just not good enough for Liverpool FC, expectations were raised after the Everton game last season when Rafa took off Gerrard and was replaced by Lucas who in fact won us the game. His performance was very encouraging. But he has failed to live up to these standards since he has set himself which is probably the main reason. He needs to buck up before he is on his way out Anfield. He has been given a chance, fair crack indeed but hasn't imposed himself enough to lay down a marker which personally I want to see as a fan. The one thing I give the man credit for after that disrespectful un-Liverpool like booing when Rafa took off Mascherano instead of him, it didn't up set Lucas. He didn't shy away and looked for the ball at every opportunity. It's that which annoys me most, but unlike Benayoun and Pennant he does seem to care as he did show in the last 20 mins on Saturday. As for you leaving this forum, you need take a look at you're postings and form you're own opinion. All opinions are respected no matter how you disagree with them its your loss at the end of the day since you have been a registered user since the new site inception back in July last year ah sure we move on.
i think you seriously over estimate how many people of forums actually go to matches... anfield holds 42000 home fans remember and id say 50 at most of this site were actually at the game on sat. you can add rawk, otk, raotl etc and it prob comes up to a couple of thousand at most...
He may be a bit oot but it simply has to be said that this forum (and others) had become unreadable at times. The player bashing by internet heroes is easy stuff imo and not what is needed. The hypocris of some who are praising Kuyt and will be on his back the second he has a bad game is case in point
Totally agree my name is Dave Creaven from Galway and Lucas is pants... Lucas does not get paid to read online forums or newspapers for that matter he gets paid to play football and from what i see M8 or LAD he does not do that well enough to play for any Liverpool team.
