In an attempt to get interested in the World Cup, I had a look at England's group.

After a pretty simple campaign for Belgium and England they got handed probably the easiest group, Panama have never qualified and Tunisia have only won one match in 4 campaigns. Tunisia have one player who is actually getting a game at any sort of decent level in France.

Pretty much no interesting games in the groups. I have always got fierce excited ahead of a world cup,but this time is complete and utter meh. Maybe it will change the closer we get to it.

I am looking forward to it myself. Always great to have football during the summer to bring the new season nearer. Love when the various world cup magazine specials come out as well in the lead up.

Sounds like it was a bit of a struggle mate ;)

...no doubt about it, it's hard to generate an interest when there's a lot of teams in it and not your own nation.

There's a few nations with LFC players featuring, so think I'll "adopt" one of them for the summer to help generate a bit of interest.

Only good thing about the group stages is the 3 games a day! Only about 3 or 4 decent games though sadly. Wait til 2026 with 48 team monstrosity.

Already chosen Iceland as one of my teams, and mighty matchup on Friday 22nd vs Nigeria means might have to take the day off and head to the pub all day....

    To progress, I'd go with...

    Group A
    Uruguay
    Russia

    Group B
    Spain
    Portugal

    Group C
    France
    Denmark

    Group D
    Argentina
    Croatia

    Group E
    Brazil
    Serbia

    Group F
    Germany
    Mexico

    Group G
    Belgium
    England

    Group H
    Poland
    Colombia

Really hard to see any of the African or Asian sides doing anything, tbh.

Wasn't old enough to enjoy Italia 90 but for me the 2002 World Cup was my favourite by a long way. Watched as many games as I could and didn't have work to get in my way either. Good times

Ive not go into it at all as I still have memories of the half empty ground around 70 mins against Denmark in Dublin :(

That and this Saturday has taken all my focus

Come June 1st, Ill be fully interested in this. Ill be hoping Argentina and Mexico do well, and it will be very strange not seeing an Italy team in a World Cup

I think it’s time Argentina won it with Messi. Their defence looks shite but with Messi, Aguero, Higuain and Dybala as attackers they could go far with a bit of luck. They were unlucky in 2014

Messi top scorer and Argie win 40/1

Watching the Italia 90 documentary on History and I checked out Schillaci career stats.Only one season in top level football where he got more than 10 goals (I'm not counting Japan) and scored 1 goal for Italy outside of that tournament.Football is mad sometimes.
